We recently connected with Sofía Castro and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sofía, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I never thought about it, this is the perfect moment for me. My husband and I started our company Max Xperience in August 2023, at that time I was working for a local channel in South Carolina producing around 12 varied shows and before emigrating in 2018, in my country Venezuela, I worked as a journalist, host and producer of different radio and TV shows since 2006, I always had a lot of creative freedom in my projects, very good co workers and bosses, so all those years gave me a lot of experience and security to start my own business, that’s why I feel that this is the perfect time to put all my energy and knowledge into it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Since I was little girl I knew that my passion was to communicate, so it was easy for me to choose journalism and production. I started looking for opportunities from the first semester of my degree, so by the time I graduated I already had 5 years of experience in the world of communication and I had really fallen in love with it.
At Max Xperience we give workshops to improve your communication in front of cameras, we produce video podcasts and create content for personal brands and businesses in social media . One of the problems that we solve is the fear of communicating effectively on camera, we teach you communication tools and at the same time we guide you so that you feel comfortable and safe when transmitting your message, since we believe that no one will tell your story better than you.
I am proud of how customers trust us despite being a company founded less than a year ago, and how we have achieved that connection with them, it makes me feel that we are on the right way.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes, starting a business is challenging and you don’t always have the capital to invest or for the new business to pay all your expenses from the beginning, but we have to have the courage and determination to start, right?
So 2 days a week I work in a beauty salon where I practice my English because I am a Hispanic immigrant and I make some additional money. My partner who is my husband also does Uber 3 days per week and step by step we are organizing ourselves financially and strategically in order to our business will be come our full-time job.
The key for us has been to have mentors and guides who have helped us understand the business world more.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For me the key has been, although it sounds repetitive, to be myself. If you build something that someone tells you is good and works and is not aligned with your values, it will not be sustainable over time.
Think more about the interaction and connection with the people who follow you than about the quantity.
Understand who your ideal client is to build a community with the right people.
