We were lucky to catch up with Snowy The Cat recently and have shared our conversation below.
Snowy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
As a DJ / Visual Artist / Feline, I think people expect more from me and often confuse the need to express myself with my need to be entertained by small birds and squirrels. I always say, “you can hate the game, but don’t hate the gamer.”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a kitten growing up in the Boston area I was exposed to a lot of funky fresh beats in my ‘hood. Then one day a DJ friend of mine asked me to fill in for him at the local disco when he got sick (fur ball) and I really loved the scene. It turns out that I could use my claws to ‘scratch’ the records on the turntables. This was totally whack, so that, combined with my sick beats CATapulted me to fame and fortune in about a week.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me — it’s all about the Catnip, man. Sometimes my girl Lynx and I get so lit on the Nip that we have been known to chase a small red laser dot as if it were a real mouse. It’s just something that we can’t resist.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One time I was sleeping on a chair, and one of the kids came home and slammed the door so hard that it scared me and I jumped a mile. I just stood in the middle of the room not knowing if I should fight or flee, you know? But I said to myself – No – I shall stand my ground, and I climbed back up on the chair and licked myself for a while and went back to sleep until dinner time.
