We were lucky to catch up with Smyly Sickwitit recently and have shared our conversation below.
Smyly, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I play such a huge role in my community as an artist and philanthropist.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For folks who may not have read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself, how you got into your industry
I got into this industry by watching my brother and cousin. I use to always here there music but I had an ear and had a connection to multiple genres. I decided to use music to channel my energy in a more productive way inside of acting out in a way that displayed no control.
I learned the business fast as I started to view different deals. At that same time I used my exposure and network to build my community. These connections drove my success in starting my own entertainment company, clothing and more.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society should use the talent in the community as ingredients. Teach the community how to use their talents in moderation and allow communities to cycle the talent across the community.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I once owned my own construction company that I lost. I was down on my last and used music to pick me back up and keep me focused. I went back to school, started a successful career that has allowed me to come back to music.
