We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Smiz Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Smiz, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
This has always been my goal from an early age. I taught myself basketball when I was 13, and moved into a love for Streetball. I loved creating new moves and trying them out on opponents. From there, I taught myself how to dance and entered my talent show with a friend in High School. I doubled down, kept dancing, and was able to pursue that path professionally. I did local shows, created YouTube videos and tutorials, and was able to peform with the group iLuminate! During that time, I got into Fitness and started to train like a bodybuilder! I loved the Art of making and shaping muscles. Then, when the pandemic hit, I went back to my core creative outlet which was illustration. Honorable mention, I used to make music and mixtapes in high school!

Smiz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an Artist and Content Creator. I produce videos for other Artists to relate to, so we can all realize that we go through the same obstacles together. Art is a solo journey, but you’re not alone. I create custom characters, comic book/manga covers, emotes and more for people looking for custom Artwork. On the Content Creator side, I review products that would interest Artists or other creators. Everything from drawing tablets, to headphones, to gaming gear. Fun Fact: Most creatives are also Gamers!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’ve actually made a series of NFTs that sold out. I was brought on as the lead Artist for phase 1 of the Fundaes brand. I had a chance to showcase my creativity and make a product people would come to enjoy.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Taking something that didn’t exist, and CREATING it. I love to fill a sketchbook, or doodle on paper, or make things as proof that I was there. Proof I was alive, I existed, and this is what I created. I say that in the most humble way possible. A fun aspect is also helping bring someone else’s vision to life. Someone can describe something to me, I try and create it, and when they love the end result, it’s a great feeling.
