We caught up with the brilliant and insightful SM Tone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
SM, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve ever made was to invest the time,energy & money into myself to give me a chance to show the world that anything is possible. I come from a single parent household, in and out of jail, dead end jobs and being a College drop out to being able to find my purpose through music and now I’m the owner of 3 businesses. I’ve learned that it’s never to late to bet on yourself as long as your willing to change your mindset.
SM, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the music industry in 2016 when I was rapping with a few of my neighborhood friends. From there I invested into the equipment to start my own home studio where we all begin to record. As time went on I purchased my first shirt press and started my first 2 businesses which are Soufside Mafia (a record label) and Souf Inner Circle (Manufacturer/Production Company). I wanted to be the one stop shop for artists and creatives in the area, so I provided everything from studio time, graphic design, videography, photography, custom merchandise ect.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes I want to show my community, the world, that anything is possible if you invest in yourself. My mission is to give creators a place to feel free and in control of their art.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During this journey I’ve made a few bad investments but that just taught me that I should have invested in the knowledge instead of taking a short cut. I’ve never thought about stopping, I just make a new plan and continue to the goal.
