Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Slumped Sessions. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Slumped , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
Going from Idea to Execution is easier said than done. When I had the idea that I wanted to pick up a camera and create content I was overwhelmed with the big question of “Where do I start?”. Having never picked up a camera or filmed a day in my life I had no idea where to start. I began with RESEARCH RESEARCH AND MORE RESEARCH. Everything from cameras, settings, lenses, lights and literally everything little detail I can think of. Its amazing what you can learn on YouTube these days. I became obsessive with gear and gadgets and trying to cram all the new found knowledge into my head. After I felt comfortable with what I’ve learned next step was to get the ball rolling. Camera gear and all the things I was researching is not cheap, at least not to me who was working a regular 9-5 to to try and acquire all this. Ive always been procrastinator and an over thinker so making a decision on such big purchases was not easy. I went out on a limb and spent pretty much all my savings I had which is not an easy thing to do when you have kids and family that are seeing you go down this rabbit hole, but I did it. Now after receiving all this equipment its a matter of trying to put this new found knowledge to the test. I start with learning the ins and outs of the camera I got I could tell you every detail about it, but knowing that doesn’t make you a creator. I quickly realized that I’m going to need help and mentorship, I reached out to the only person I knew in my small town that did videos Qvest and we’ve been working together ever since. Having someone show and teach you is a great way to gain hands on experience. I’m still learning everyday and trying to create everyday. There is no end to what you can learn.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Well we are Videographers, directors, photographers and media creators. We strive to showcase Artists, entrepreneurs and other creatives in the City of Houston. We would like to be a go to place for people to either discover or keep up with the creative and art scene in the city. For musical artists its all about getting your music in front of new eyes/ears and thats what we try to do. For small businesses and entrepreneurs its about showing your product or getting your ideas out into the world and thats what try to do. We take pride In discovering new talented people in the city to show and always keeping an eye and ear to the streets.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media especially now a days Is everything. It starts off slow and unless you have some viral moment it seems to stay pretty slow. Consistency is the major key, I’ve seen people come and go to many times and it seems like every time I ask it comes down to one thing and thats consistency its very demanding. Life gets in the way so much and thats understandable but really the strong survive. Networking is also a big factor, I’ve learned to step outside my comfort zone and meet people and try to spread our message. Learning the algorithm and applying it to everything you post is a great way to boost views and engagement. Lastly its originality and trying to separate yourself from other people in the same space, people can tell when what you’re doing is genuine and comes from a genuine place and doesn’t seem forced.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth has been the best source of clients. Networking and going out to events around the city and meeting the people in the scene and just showcasing what we can do. Being real and approachable to every one and being kind to people goes along way. I’ve said it before people can tell when what you’re doing is forced.
