We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Slizzy K. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Slizzy below.
Slizzy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Although being a creative and an artist are both fulfilling, I would definitely say I’m happier as a creator. The creative process has always been my favorite part when it comes down to each project. Seeing what goes into establishing a project from beginning to end, is what made me fall in love with music. I love performing, but most of my joy comes from building each project from scratch. The creative process is also one of my favorite aspects when it comes down to making music due to the amount of brainstorming and writing that goes into it. Once a project is complete, I enjoy looking back at the process it took to get to the finished product. The stories behind each song is what makes music, music to me.
Ever since I was younger, I knew I was meant to excel in the music industry. In high school, I worked my fair share of regular jobs, but I knew there was more out there for me. Although I was creating music while having a job, I knew for a fact that music was where my future would be at. I can’t imagine myself in a regular job position without having any ties to my artistry being that music and creativity is what I’m passionate about. Working a regular job wouldn’t be enough for me because I know my passion and dreams are meant for the industry. I’m striving to get to a point where having a regular job isn’t even a thought. The last time I thought about my future not working out in the music industry was this past summer. My birthday was coming up and I felt as though I hadn’t done enough and that my efforts were being looked over. After pondering in worry for a few weeks, I made the decision to put my all into my work from there on out. I began to send out more emails and take on more interviews. My drive and motivation increased after the summer and I haven’t looked back since.

Slizzy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas until I moved to Charleston, SC at the age of 14. Growing up, I always watched the BET Awards and knew that one day, I’d be on that same stage. Music has always been a significant part of my life, but once I got to middle school, I started to focus more on my abilities. I began to figure out how to use apps such as Soundcloud and from there, I released my first remix to “Watch Out” by 2 Chainz. Once I saw its positive reactions, I continued to improve my craft. Since I began creating music early on, I have several projects out now. I released “HIlltop Shawty”, which is now an anthem at Claflin University. Soon after, I announced my next EP titled Girls Love Slizz. After gaining major attraction in the Carolinas, I continued to work on my craft and I’ve just released my newest single called “Gone Head”. Along with the song, I released a music video and I’ve continued to network with various photographers and videographers to make the name “Slizzy K” known in various areas. My newest single, “Gone Head”, is mainly about boosting the confidence and egos of anyone who listens to it. I also hope everyone who comes in contact with any of my music leaves with a boost of energy and good vibes. Not only am I continuing to work on my artistry and my craft, but I’m also fortunate enough to be in school as well. Often, we see artists choosing between their music careers and college, yet I’m proud to be balancing both. I would want my potential supporters to know that my music is all about making you feel confident while boosting your spirits. Regardless of what each song is about, I want to make sure that once you hear it, you won’t forget it and the feelings that came along with it. It’s important for my music to speak through you and for it to be enjoyable on all levels.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing that the late nights, stress, and hard work are all worth it. Each time I release a project, the support I receive surprises me. I know I can count on a certain amount of support, but now the support is exceeding my expectations. Without a shadow of a doubt, the support I receive plays a major role in gratifying my artistry and the efforts I put into my craft.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Non-creatives would struggle to understand how hands-on I am with my artistry. When it comes down to the marketing and creating aspects of music, I’m multitasking to ensure everything is exactly how I want it to be. Being that I’m an independent artist, my work is never done. Although a song may be complete and published, I still have to call radio stations, constantly post my artistry on social media networks, engage with my supporters, etc. Alongside being hands-on, I would want my supporters to understand how dedicated I am to my craft. Not only are all of my efforts put into creating music, but there’s also a time and financial commitment that comes with being an independent artist. All and all, I wouldn’t change anything about the amount of dedication I have towards my artistry and I hope my supporters can see my hard work through my music.
