Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Skyler Greyson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Skyler , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
Quality is probably my biggest concern, so I am always seeking ways to control that aspect of my business. I have found that if you batch as many items as you can beforehand in a controlled setting, then quality will be much higher. If you have someone who’s job it is to batch those items with a quality mindset, then that will increase the control of the quality, as well.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry that I am in because it was all that I could afford to do as I try to build into a coffee shop, but little did I know that I would find so much satisfaction in the events industry. I bring specialty coffee to the client’s event, but not just any old black liquid that is brewed with no thought. I use my 15+ years of experience in the coffee science world to create some of the best coffee that you will ever have. What sets me apart from others is that we have been in this industry for 8 years now and know just about everything of what to expect, so we are well prepared for any serving situation we find ourselves in, which makes us very easy to work with. Not only that, but our quality is unparalleled, which is why places like the Honda Center and the House of Blues Anaheim trusts us as their preferred vendor for all their coffee catering needs.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Rugged Coffee was my side hustle that always was my hope to turn into my main career. For the first 5 years of being in business, I worked full-time jobs as a Barista, then as a Coffee Educator for a corporate coffee company. As things started to ramp up with my business, and I saw that I had event booked every weekend and some weekday nights for the next several months, I decided it was time to take the leap and quit the full-time job and step into full-time business owner mode. With my faith in Jesus, that step was not very difficult for myself. It’s been a year and a half now since that leap of faith and I haven’t looked back.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
