We recently connected with Skyler Cline and have shared our conversation below.
Skyler, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Makeup and skin care have been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom used to sell makeup and always taught me how important skin care is. I have loved doing makeup for as long as I can remember. I always did my friends hair and makeup. After covid hit I was truly lost with what I wanted to do with my life and career so I decided mentor with a friend of mine who was a Makeup artist. I decided to follow my passion of makeup. I started practicing everything that involved makeup and then soon after decided to look into a Esthetics course and a Lash extension course. I completely fell in love with both. After completing my Lash extension course and became a certified Lash tech. I’m currently in school to become an Esthetician while running my business being a Makeup Artist. I work
with Boudoir photographer as her makeup artist. Frequently doing a lot of Natural Glam, helping women feel amazing in their own skin and leaving more confident, which is why I love this job. I get to help my client enhance their natural beauty, and that is such an amazing feeling. I’m excited to enhance my career by becoming a Licensed Esthetician. This will make it possible to add many more service to what I love doing.

Skyler, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am married and we have an amazing daughter. I come from a very supportive large family which is female dominate with loads personality. I grew up with 2 amazing sisters always playing with makeup and hair for fun. I got into this industry because I truly love it and want to help women feel beautiful in their own skin and more confident. Makeup can be tricky and not a lot of people know how to use it. I love to help my clients learn how to highlight their natural beauty as well as offering tips on Full Glam. I’m looking forward to be able to explain and help them with all their skincare needs once I graduate. I help educate my clients how to color match foundation, and pick out colors that would go well with their eyes. I help young ladies learn how to apply their makeup and that brings me so much joy. I think what sets me apart from other makeup artists is I always want to enhance natural beauty. I always try to help my clients realize what they have is amazing and highlight their natural features. Working for myself allows me have clients come to my in home studio and/or traveling to provide services on location. I am so very proud of the work I do and pride myself on always trying to go the extra step for my clients. I would want my clients to know that I am always learning or practicing new techniques to further my skills to better suit my clients needs. I will always go out of my way to make sure they are happy. The readers will be able to see my business on Facebook and Instagram.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back I would not change my profession. I love what I do and why I do it. I have many passions in other things but this is my dream job. I wake up everyday looking forward to do what I do and then it doesn’t feel like work to me.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Living in a military town as a military spouse myself has made it able to connect on a more personal level using Social Media. There are many pages for photographers and wedding planners who are constantly looking for Hair and Makeup artists. It’s such a blessing to have clients refer me to friends and family as well.
