Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Skylar Sustin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Skylar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The defining moment of my career occurred before I even started my business or had any thought about it. The years 2020-2021 brought me immense heartache, emotional pain, fear, and loss. I was in a deep state of avoidance and denial in 2020, as a result of COVID, which led me to begin my own healing journey. This was a powerful journey but one that was not always easy. Long story short, I expressed many unhealthy habits of coping with not very many places to actually hide from myself. Therefore, I was struck in the face with the awareness that when it came to myself I had no idea how to truly feel and understand my emotions. This was the healing work I began doing.
A year later, everything I thought I knew really got pulled out from under me when my parents went through a long and hard separation and divorce. My initial response was to fight it, fix it, and, make everyone feel better. I was getting dragged along, putting so much of my self-worth into the outcome of my family that, once again, I ignored my own emotions. This is where I began to heal my mindset, my relationship with my external environment, & people-pleasing tendencies.
During this time, I was deep in my healing as well as my pain and had watched the Tony Robbins documentary, “I’m Not Your Guru”. And for the first time, a shift like no other occurred: I felt connected to something bigger than the pain I was feeling within. The power of helping other people understand and shift their lives by changing their perspectives, healing their emotions & trauma, and learning to reconnect with their true selves sparked an emotion I had never truly felt before. PURPOSE. And this is where my healing expanded into the healing of others. This was the defining moment where I realized that all the pain I had gone through didn’t just serve the purpose to help me heal myself but to also help others work through their own emotional pains.

Skylar, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an Emotion & Trauma Release Coach based in San Diego, California. Originally from LA County!
I started the work I do as a result of my own synchronistic healing journey. In 2020, ignoring my emotions began to cause more pain within that I could no longer overlook. During the next few years, I experienced a lot of loss, emotional pain, uncertainty, and trauma that acted as the catalyst to start healing myself.
The wisdom, awakenings, and life-changing perspectives I have gained (& continue to gain) are at the root of everything I share and offer today.
As an Emotion & Trauma Release Coach, I focus on assisting you to gain clarity around the root of your current emotional challenges by connecting with and releasing your energetic emotion, trauma, and mindset blocks. In each session, I utilize (1) muscle testing to connect with the subconscious mind & body, (2) intuitive channeling & automatic writing to provide you with deeper clarity around the root of what is being released and how those trapped energies are affecting you today, and (3) mindful coaching to support releasing and mindful integration to help you in building awareness and reconnecting to your true self. My work is all about shifting your relationship with your internal world so you can make space to reconnect with your true self and ultimately see those shifts being reflected externally
I offer 1:1 Emotion & Trauma Release Coaching as well as host monthly Emotion Releasing Circles both in-person (in San Diego) and virtually.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A recent lesson I had to unlearn was in the form of a mindset. Starting a business is not easy, it brings up so many of your pain points and triggers in a way that can really damage your success. This was happening to me.
I had been so caught up in making money, scarcity, and performing well that I had lost sight of why I started this business in the first place. As a result, I had to do a lot of work to redefine the stories I was telling myself about what success means. Therefore, I had to unlearn the concept that success is based all on numbers and that external approval is what solely drives growth.
You might be thinking “well yes it does!” Here’s the thing, the way we interact with ourselves, the thoughts we think, and the meaning we give to our business all impact it’s a success just as much as anything else. Once I realized this and brought awareness to the stories I was telling myself, everything shifterd. Both within myself and my business.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Personal life experience. Not just knowledge from studying, but wisdom from having to learn what you share with others in your own life.
