We were lucky to catch up with Skylar Steffy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Skylar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I have mixed feelings about this. Even though I have always been involved with performance arts all through my formative years but I made the decision to not pursue music in college. I knew I would drop out if I got too involved in a project. So, in that regard I am happy with how I did things. Creating a credible back up plans for myself.
But on the other hand, I’ve had petty men tell me I am past my prime for being the front woman of a band because I am 31. But I think back to my teens and early twenties, and I think, what the f*ck would I have written about? I didn’t have a grasp on who I was yet and honestly, who does at that age?

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are Always Naked. A Post-love blues rock band from Seattle, WA. [Rahul/Drums] [Pword/Bass] [Will/Guitar] [Skylar/Vocals]
Our band name represents how I feel as a woman in our society.
Our songs reflect my own personal experience with the world. Exploring the loss of love from partners, friends and family members.
Its human to feel blue and the most human to feel hope. Thats what our music does from me. The boys help make my sad lyrics feel sassy with creating a unique, bass n drum forward beat and raw energy.
We’ve played all around PNW but our most notable show was playing White River Amp for Pain In The Grass 2022 for Seattle’s 99.9 The Rock radio station.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think something people forget is that we aren’t just music machines and content creators. We are humans and most creative people have mental health problems.
Balancing my personal mental health with trying to write and record new music, plus posting on as many social networks platforms as possible, and managing the band schedule is tricky.
Sometimes I end up just sitting there, too frozen to make the next move.
So if ya dont hear from your current favorite artist; they’re probably taking a mental health day.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The easiest thing to do is show up and buy merch. Check out the local scene, pay the 10 bucks to get in and if ya like what ya hear; rep a band tee. If thats not in your wheelhouse, support your favorite creative online. Follow, like, comment aka interact on any social page.
