Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Skye Wang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Skye thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I realized my creative process lacked a sense of participation. I used to plan my illustrations like a military operation – sketches, color studies, texture tests. They looked well-finished, but I felt more like an observer than a participant. After graduating, I started an experimental project, with no sketches, just intuition. This project drew inspiration from occultism, psychology, and star maps, allowing me to explore concepts of the soul, position, and relationships. I played with lines, symbols, and patterns, developing compositions from random shadows and abstract lines. It became a reflection of my healing journey—a visual language of comfort, company, and embracing my trauma.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I graduated from the School of Visual Art, focusing on healing art, and book illustrations. I mainly work on watercolor, which is a tricky medium but also brings surprising texture that digital tools couldn’t achieve. In a society plagued by nihilism, my artwork endeavors to inspire self-awareness, applying existentialist theories.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Art has made me the person who knows me the best. During my creative process, I have to deeply excavate my memoirs, and stand as the third party to observe my reaction in different conditions. Knowing myself is the only way to bring particularity to my art. This interaction builds up a stronger inner self and becomes an exclusive therapy.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to find out my unique visual language system. Many successful artists create their own “equation”. Whatever the “data” they substitute into the equation, their final result, their finished works, look recognizable.
