We were lucky to catch up with Skye Miranda recently and have shared our conversation below.
Skye, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Honestly the name of my business completely fell into my lap ! I guess I would have to start with my first name – being that my name is actually Schuyler (pronounced skyler) it’s traditionally a surname (last name) and my mom chose my name from a family members last name. However, as a 5 year old in kindergarten I came home and asked my mom how to spell my name and she replied “S-K-Y” . At some point, a grade school teacher mispelled it Skye and I was too shy to correct her – I actually liked the flare of the E.
Fast forward to 18 years old , a family member gave me a graduation card that said “The sky'(e)s the limit” – they wrote in the e. A family friend read the card and he had a business of his own with a play on words using his name called Blinded by D White , like the song blinded by the light(his company installed blinds) .
So he said to me “why don’t you name your business Skyes the Limit Hair – because the sky’s the limit” and from there my business name was born.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Skye, hairstylist & owner at Skye’s the limit hair studio. I wanted to do hair since I can remember- I was always that kid coloring and cutting their own hair and doing friends hair at my house or even in the school bathroom . With the ability to express yourself through different colors , cuts and styles, hair is just something I always felt passionate about creating. At Skye’s the Limit Hair we provide custom color and extension services for our guests. I personally understand what it feels like to be unable to have the hair you want with the genetics you’re was given (I have short , thin/fine hair) which is why I have such a passion for hair extensions. I know how much having longer/thicker hair can completely boost a gals confidence.
We sometimes call ourselves the proud weft haters which is a bit of an inside joke but honestly we’re just not huge fans of one of the most popular methods on the market. Is there a time and place for wefts and can they be used effectively ? Absolutely, but when it comes to hair extensions, we believe one size does not fit all which is why we specialize in kera-tip extensions(the fusion method) . The most custom placed hair extension method that really looks, feels and moves just like your own hair. Not to mention they are the longest lasting extension method on the market that provide 360 degree movement and are perfect for an active on the go lifestyle with maintenance only as little as every 3 months, you can have the perfect hair all year long and only see us 4 times a year !
At Skye’s the Limit Hair we truly love what we do & we strive to make hair dreams come true. We pride ourselves in providing a dreamy salon experience with the outcome our guests came in looking for.
As a business owner , I believe the key factor to success is having the ability to adapt to any situation and overcome struggles placed in our paths. This year was a huge test for me and I told myself through it all that the comeback would be greater than the setback. I know that in order to succeed I must persevere and I’m most proud of myself for never giving up even when I wanted to.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Up until May of this year I had the mindset of “if I want it done right I’ll do it myself” – unlike most of my industry I did enjoy working alone most of the time and providing private one on one appointments in my salon suite. That was of course until I broke my back in an auto accident at the end of April and quickly realized I would either be out of work for 3 months or forced to hire someone to help me. After a few days of feeling sorry for myself with my injuries limitations and contemplating closing my business, a client of mine came to visit me. While I was drugged up on pain pills – stuck at home using my walker to get from the bed to the bathroom she said “well , what are you going to do ?” and I made the decision to preserver and find help less than a week after my accident.
The very next day after my clients visit I connected with the most delightful young lady. She was getting ready to graduate highschool and cosmetology school and after a quick 15 minute interview via FaceTime she was hired! I offered her what I could at the time which was an hourly pay with tips and a promise to get her to the point of servicing her own clients through months of hands on education.
We worked and we worked hard all summer. My costylist took on more tasks than the traditional “assistant” given my limitations. But she had a positive attitude and was eager to learn – and she learned fast !
She began growing her business fresh out of beauty school and barely licensed. With the continuation of the growth of our brand , our small 110 sq ft studio wasn’t cutting it for the both of us working backed into each corner of the room with a standing station in the middle that my dad installed a mirror onto the back of so we could use it as a double station. Our growth in the space was basically maxed out and we remapped every way to make the studio work and we just couldn’t.
Although our clients were understanding of the situation and Darla and I adapted to working in the small space , I knew it was time for an upgrade. Our clients deserved more and we deserved more.
So just 4 months after my injury I found a larger space to accommodate us & began creating a completely new look in our new studio. On September 30 we opened our new location and we couldn’t be more excited to continue to service our clients and grow our business.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I think one of the most important aspects of brand loyalty is ensuring your clients see your name regularly. Wether that’s through social media or email marketing I’m always trying to make sure my brand pops up. More importantly in the past year I’ve really tuned in on the client experience. The client experience isn’t just the time the client is in your physical business but the client experience starts from the moment they inquire about a service to the booking process to the experience at the actual appointment and then beyond that , the follow up. Ensuring the experience is pleasant through every step of the process really shows our clients we care about them – not just that we care about the money they spend in the shop. In this industry it’s hard to say “business is business” when we create such personal connections with people and I find the biggest success in brand loyalty by maintaining those connections between appointments by following up , reaching out or sharing haircare tips via email.
