We were lucky to catch up with Skye Amber Sweet recently and have shared our conversation below.
Skye Amber, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I take risks daily… I would think that it is in the make-up of who I am, my soul, and my inner being. I am awake; aware. I don’t quite understand how not to take risks. Since I was very young, through my DNA or just the moments in time defining the survival in me, I find that taking risks is always in a positive direction. Whether in my art, my career, or my dreams, I find ways to achieve and surpass the goals I set for myself by not fearing my inner being or the world around me. Let’s say that I am not one to follow a crowd and I am gifted with the inner light of seeing who I am and how far I can take myself in this world we currently live in.
Growing up I was told often about how odd I was and was given the name of a loner when perceived by those who looked upon me, above me, or through me. Frankly, I believe I saw more in the ability to create my own reality. The first risk I ever took was being me. I didn’t ever change who I was for the sake of anyone. Not a friendship, not a job, or a stranger I wanted to like me. I took the risk of loving myself and honoring who I am and with years passed in growth, who I was.
Throughout my childhood and adult life, I was told often I could not do things. I used to listen to it and find people looking down on me for trying and then succeeding. I always believe that “Hard work and a great attitude give you the luck to be successful”

Skye Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who have not heard of my company, Skyepoet, or me as an artist, my name is Skye Amber Sweet. I was born in Oregon and raised in Hawaii. I am obsessed with my kids, trees, the ocean, and everything alive. I breathe in love and exhale courage.
“I find that paint and stretched canvas are made for better company. Paint runs through my veins, across my heart, and trails to my fingertips transcribing emotion from brush to canvas. I am a Random Sphere of Logical Babble.”
– Skye Amber Sweet
I am a Canvas Manipulator, Muralist, Film, and Production Scenic. I started Skyepoet in 2007 originally as a clothing line. Throughout the years it morphed and is now a business specializing in murals, props, and scenic work! I am currently expanding and have shared many projects and given many jobs to my friends and colleagues all by the love of art.
I love what I do and am so grateful to have made it this far in my career. I intend to learn more and share more as years go by!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in life is to share it with my kids and support them in all they do. My creative journey always includes them. My passion for my art and creating is driven by my mission to give them everything I can in this world that is full of love. Teaching them to be strong with and without others, artistic and creative in anything they do, lovers of our Earth, and dreamers who succeed. You can be creative and have fun too!
I take a lot of time to make time for my kids even when working so much. My children have helped me with many murals and have been to many project sites in their lives. Being creative in Los Angeles helps you keep your loved ones with you by working for yourself and sharing the colors of your spirit and mind with the world.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Not a fan. I am also not one to make a ton of prints for money. Money is not what drives me. Money comes with true intent. NFTs to me are virtual prints anyone can have. I choose to sell and paint one piece that someone has for themself. I give my HeArt away to the person who loves it. They get to keep it as their own and share the love I put into it.
I do not sell my art to anyone or everyone. I choose who I want to have it. I feel that NFTs give permission to the world to take something so special and give it to the world without appreciation. Photo captured and whored out for all to see. I rather be found gracefully with a glimpse of the love for what I create and not as a million-dollar boast.
