Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sky Bush Comans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sky, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to help people grow healthy long strong hair. No matter what they might be battling. In 2014 I gave birth to my oldest son Josiah and suffered from postpartum shedding. In result I lost the temple section of my hair (the whole front). I thought I was experiencing something no one knew about until I researched it. What happens is when you’re pregnant your hair doesn’t shed it just builds up thicker and longer. After you give birth your hormones slowly go back to normal so it causes your old hair to shed. I then started to look up ingredients to help your hair grow and that’s how I came up with my “Don’t Stop Grow Crazy” Shea Butter and “Stimulate Yo Growth Craig” Growth Oil. I’ve given samples out to people who have Lupus, Dermatitis, Breast Cancer, Alopecia, curly hair straight hair and it works for ALL. My mission is to help bring the life back into people’s hearts and on their heads naturally. It means the most to me because I’ve lost my hair plenty times, and the first time I felt so embarrassed until I told myself it’s okay let’s grow it back! And I did and seeing the results on other people give me life!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I want people to know I’ve been where they are with hair loss. I still have a goal of my own on how long I want my hair to be. I personally lost my hair after my last three children due to postpartum shedding. Most recently I got a haircut to show people my progress all over again. To show them I am real and so are my products. My name Sky’sDaLimit came from my mom and auntie Helen. I was the youngest of six from Sharon Anita Poole Paris and my auntie Helen named me Sky. When I asked her why she named me that she said because “Sky is the Limit”. My mom used to always say that to me before she passed so I took that with me as I got older. My products not only help people grow their hair but help retain moisture, help with dry scalp (dermatitis), detangle knots and kinks, makes your hair soft and manageable. My hair texture is the most course and in the state I live in AZ it gets hot hot so I have to keep it moisturized or it will cause breakage. The products I use are all natural most you use in the kitchen. Just like our bodies our hair needs food too and that’s what I feed it.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The most life changing experience I’ve ever experienced was losing my mother unexpectedly 11/11/2008. I was 17 she had an illness that wasn’t as life threatening but it played a part in her death (Hepatitis C). My mother didn’t have the best life growing up at the age of 6 she was taken advantage of by her dad’s side. In result of that as she got older and lived through her pain, she didn’t make the best decisions but handled it the best way she knew how. She ended up being a famous dancer went by the name stage name “Coffee” (she had beautiful dark skin). By the time she had me she ended up turning her life around and that’s why I was named Sky. After she passed I stayed with a family member but got kicked out after I didn’t want to spend the next Thanksgiving with them because it was too much to handle. My late friend Maurice Dillard and his mom let me move in. I took my mother’s death really hard and no one understood what I was going through. I met my husband Anthony the week I got kicked out and he was there for me through it all even when we had our breaks. We ended up pregnant with our first child and I gave birth 12/26/2010. Coming into his life wasn’t easy either his mothers side didn’t like me because I was “different” (full black, dating a guy with only females in his family, felt like I was taking him away because he chose to follow his heart) they came to the hospital with a picture of his sister while I was in labor and said “if the baby doesn’t look like this she isn’t ours” well Aaliyah came out looking just like them but the hate didn’t stop there either. July 2017 my mother in law put her hands on me in front of Aaliyah and Josiah while I was pregnant with Aniyah and we ended up moving out of state after to get away from their toxicity. Best decision I’ve ever made was to leave San Jose, Ca it forced me to pick my life up and go harder . I’ve been homeless numerous times the people who opened their doors to me and my family I thank them so much, Ms. Vickie Roberts (Maurice’s mother) R.I.P Petra Wright (auntie couldn’t have done it without you), & The Hayes. There’s a few more but these one stood out the most. I look back at my life and I thank GOD for the strength he gave me and my mother for raising me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I’ve been unlearning is who I am. I say this because I’ve been through rough times and I didn’t know my strength. Now that I’m 31, I know who I am and no one can stop my growth, my motivation, I’m comfortable with who I am. I struggled with my body after the birth of my kids Aaliyah, Josiah, Aniyah, & Massiah they stretched my stomach muscles apart and I was told I had a hernia. I ended up meeting a black Midwife and she told me it was actually “ diastasis recti”. One of the ways to cure it is a tummy tuck or “mommy make over”. I’m not interested in any, to be honest because of my husband and our children I love my body even more. My tummy looks like a oatmeal creame pie stretch marks and all. I often get people asking how many months I am because the bulge in my tummy that doesn’t go away. This is another thing I hope to open people’s eyes about. I do want to give out special thanks to Isabel Palacios for believing in me and my business and pushing me. I love you, my good friend and thank you for truly standing beside me and always picking me up when I need it! With all the mess going on in the world I’ve learned to give a helping hand whenever you can and keep a smile on your face. Also it’s okay to stand alone that’s where your strength comes from!
