We caught up with the brilliant and insightful SiYoung Kim a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

SiYoung, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?

Wow Wash Crew was born from kindness. I immigrated to the US from South Korea when I married my wife, Kim, in 2017. I found myself as a new husband, in a new country, in a new culture, and unable to use my education or work experience in this new environment. A dear friend offered to teach me the trade of exterior cleaning. Not only did he patiently teach me these new techniques and skills, but he encouraged me to branch off on my own and start my own business once I was able. This allowed me to adjust to my new life in the US and achieve my American Dream! This act of kindness is one that will never be forgotten, and serves as the foundation of our excellent customer service.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Wow Wash Crew is an exterior cleaning company. Our name says it all: CREW (Commercial, Residential, Exterior Washing, Window Cleaning). We specialize in pressure washing, soft washing, and window cleaning. This includes not only your home or business, but also concrete, roofs, fencing, decks, gutters, and more. A good wash will bring a property back to life! Whether you have lived in your home for a long time, are getting ready to sell, or just want your business to sparkle, exterior cleaning is always a good choice!

Of course, we are happy to provide our customers with the cleaning skills they are looking for, but what we’re most proud of is our customer service. From the initial phone call to the final walk through, we strive to give our best with an attitude of kindness, positivity, friendliness, and respect.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

As customers ourselves, one of the first places we check before purchasing products or services is the reviews. The power of reviews is something we have kept in mind from the beginning of Wow Wash Crew. When we received our very first 5 star review, we jumped up and down and celebrated! Even today, after countless positive reviews, we have the same excitement! Not only does it boost our morale as a company, but it stands out to other customers and potential customers. Nearly every new customer says they chose us based on our reviews. There is a definite feeling of pride for us behind that and has helped tremendously in growing our reputation.

Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.

My background is far from exterior cleaning. In Korea, I owned my own restaurant and later was the General Manager of my own traditional bed and breakfast. My guesthouse was rated in the top three in all of Seoul, and it was something I was very proud of. When my wife and I decided to marry, we faced a big decision of whose country we would live in. Ultimately, we decided to move to her home country of the United States, which meant I would need to give up my business and start over. Working so long and hard, I was proud of what I had built, but in the end I learned a valuable lesson. Although I truly enjoy business in general, it is not the source of true happiness for me. Putting my family first and having an attitude of flexibility and adaptability has helped me roll with life’s punches. Instead of focusing my time and energy on making large amounts of money, I focused on people and forming good relationships with my customers. That is where I found true success and happiness to be.
