We were lucky to catch up with Siti Lu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Siti thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Growing up, I always wanted to be a Comic Artist. When it was time for applying to college, I realized there were not many comic majors out there. I ended up studying character animation at CalArts, and I was lucky enough landing my first storyboard job at Cartoon Network my sophomore year. After graduating from CalArts in 2021, I’ve been working as a professional Storyboard Artist at Cartoon Network and Netflix Animation. I’ve storyboarded for shows like Close Enough, Driftwood, and We Baby Bears.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My job as a storyboard artist is to create blueprint from a script. I need to be camera man, actor, director and translate what’s written in words to visual images.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love making people laugh, It’s a tough world out there, If my work can bring a little joy into people’s life that’s super fulfilling to me. I love telling stories. Getting people react a certain way to my perspective of a story and hopefully relate is the most rewarding part of my job.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For my short-term goal, I want to keep doing what I’m doing right now. I do enjoy storyboarding. For long-term goals, I want to pursue pitching and writing for my own content. I’ve always wanted to storyboarding something more subtle and personal for myself and hopefully a bigger audience get to see it.
