We were lucky to catch up with Sirrita Darby recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sirrita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I do. I think vacations are very important. I recently took a month long vacation from my business right before busy season started to unwind, reflect and breath.
Being goal focused has recently caused me immense stress. Im always accomplishing something, expanding myself when it comes to my businesses. So vacations have taught me to rest and just be who I am, where I am without internal or external pressure.
Vacations are vital and allow me to take a break from my businesses and a break from “showing up” in other places of influence. I always come back recharged and ready so vacations are definitely necessary if you feel your battery is running low.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Dr. Sirrita Darby began curating pandemic-friendly experiences in June of 2021 when she saw a need to create unique experiences for Detroiters who were struggling finding ways to celebrate and spend time with one another safely amidst the pandemic. She began with curating pop-up picnic experiences for couples and groups. She then transitioned to creating date night experiences during the night time where couples can enjoy a meal, each other and indulge in the many add-ons the experience offers. What began as a “hobby” for Dr. Darby has now manifested into a full-scale intimate event service, now offering a variety of experiences.
The WR Experience partners with local vendors to bring the full experience such as a Hibachi Chef who prepares the food right in front of you, to a local small bakery that supplies all the sweet treats for the date night. Her goal was to always boost the economic energy in her community by building jobs and opportunities for others.
Alongside being a luxury experience curator, Darby also runs a multi award-winning nonprofit and runs her own Education Consulting Business as well. She is a Forbes 30 Under 30 recipent and she takes pride in her most important job, being a mom.
Dr. Darby doesn’t know where her uniquely curated experiences will take her next. She hopes to expand to planning seasonal themed large scale events and expand to atleast 5 other cities by 2024. She also hopes to open a storefront one day day where she can launch her luxury experience retail line so clients can create these experiences on their own. No matter what, she hopes to keep giving people like you a truly unforgettable experience.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We have almost 70k followers on instagram and almost 50k on Tiktok. Honestly what grew our audience is the innovation and consistency. We post everyday on our accounts and multiple times a day as well. On our stories and streams. We recycle content and make sure that we are always creating new content. We also offer alot of knowledge in our post for people looking to start the same kind of business so alot of our followers aren’t even potential clients but our social media still offers some kind of value to them, We also use hashtags so people can find us and we engage consistently with our adience so they feel apart of our social media community.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients have been word of mouth. We also have a great referral program where there is an incentitive in telling your friends and family about us. We also get alot of clients at local parks when we do setups. We have a sign we put right outside our setups so potential clients can get our info and book with us. We also offer new client discounts and do giveaways often to reel in new clients.
