We were lucky to catch up with Siqi Fu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Siqi, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I had started my creative career earlier, perhaps even while I was still in high school. My passion for creating images began at a very young age, but I grew up in a culture that generally didn’t support art learning. However, the real barrier wasn’t external; it was my own mindset. I constantly compared myself to the great artists throughout history and those I admired on the internet, which made me feel that I was never ready to share my work.
I believed that only when I reached a certain level of professionalism and quality in my art would I be worthy of sharing it. Even now, I sometimes struggle with this mentality. I often feel that my work isn’t good enough, and this has been a persistent obstacle.
However, I’ve come to realize that being an artist means exposing yourself to the public, imperfections and all. I wish I had started sharing my work as soon as I began creating it. If I had, I believe I would have gathered more courage and developed a deeper love for working in this field. Sharing early on could have helped me grow and improve more quickly, and I might have become a better artist sooner.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a passionate designer specializing in concept and visual design, with a portfolio that spans exhibit events, individual games, short films, and more. My journey began at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where I had the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of talented and creative individuals. The collaborative culture at USC, where everyone has a unique focus and skill set, constantly inspires me and has provided me with numerous opportunities to develop my craft and grow as an artist. In terms of my work, I focus on creating compelling visual designs and developing concepts that bring ideas to life. For instance, in a recent project, I created key visuals for a tech conference in Malaysia. This involved researching the company and the conference content, understanding their visual preferences, and then designing visuals that are both artistic and functional. Balancing the artistic elements with the practical needs of the client was a challenging but rewarding experience.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge artistic vision with practical functionality, ensuring that the designs not only look great but also meet the client’s objectives. I’m most proud of the diverse range of projects I’ve worked on and the positive impact my designs have had on my clients’ events and products.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that I am dedicated to pushing the boundaries of visual design. My work is characterized by a commitment to excellence and a deep passion for creativity. I strive to deliver designs that not only meet but exceed expectations, and I am always excited to take on new challenges that allow me to innovate and grow.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My primary goal is to be an artist who conveys meaningful content and thoughts through my artwork. I strive to create visuals that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also inspire people and resonate with them on a deeper level. I hope my work encourages viewers to reflect and think more deeply about the themes and messages I present.
What drives me forward is the desire to communicate with my audience through images, creating a connection and fostering understanding. I’m deeply influenced by ancient Yokai stories, which explore humanity and relationships in profound ways. I aim to incorporate these themes into my art, blending traditional influences with contemporary perspectives.
Additionally, I want my work to represent my nationality and background, infusing my images with cultural elements that reflect who I am. By doing so, I hope to share my heritage and personal experiences with a broader audience, making my art a bridge between different cultures and ideas.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an artist, I naturally pay attention to beauty in both visual and emotional ways. This heightened awareness allows me to deeply connect with the world around me, finding inspiration in everyday moments and translating them into my work. This constant source of inspiration not only fuels my creativity but also enriches my life, making me appreciate the beauty of existence more profoundly.
Another rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to imagine and express myself not just through images, but also through words, spaces, emotions, and feelings. This multidimensional creativity helps me build deeper connections with others and gives me a profound sense of gratitude for being alive.
Additionally, I find great joy in using my skills to help those around me with aesthetic and visual challenges. It’s incredibly fulfilling to share the beauty I perceive with others and to see how my work can positively impact their lives.
Being an artist also allows me to appreciate the work of others on a deeper level. Although each artist is unique, we share a similar creative process and connection to our work. This shared experience fosters a sense of community, where we constantly inspire and support each other. This sense of belonging and mutual inspiration is invaluable, keeping me motivated and continually pushing me to grow as an artist.
