Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to SinThya The Devil. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi SinThya, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Music and art in general is all about taking risks. Not everyone is going to love what you make, hell, most people won’t even give a shit. That’s why you make art for yourself. The people will come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I was around 10, I got introduced to the Industrial scene. i was infatuated by acts like Machines Of Loving Grace and KMFDM among others, which got me interested in the community. Around 2013, I had begun familiarizing and networking with the community, doing DJ work on the side as well as learning sound design through freelance stock music production. In turn, my interest in sound design eventually got me into the Noise scene as well. Since 12 years old I’ve been making music, overtime developing my work into what it is today. My music is hard to categorize, mainly being common placed under the umbrella of Experimental Industrial. Due to the unique sound I have, I have coined it under the genre title of Killerwave or Bloodpop.
In turn, I’m not the most prideful person, the addition of my many mental problems and ailments not doing me any favours in that department. I usually make something, think of it as passible to my standardss but never perfect, thus hating it overtime and moving on to the next creation. It wasn’t until my debut album “Figures” released that I started to become proud of what I make. It was in production hell for 4 years, being re-written, thrown out, changed around, re-recorded and everything in between until it became something I could consider worthy of your listen. Even though my appreciation was blossoming, I am in the time of this interview still re-working parts of it for the upcoming “Figures (Special Edition)”, set for a June 18th release. The special edition comes with a number of newer tracks as well as certain songs being re-recorded and the entire original album being remastered as to give you the most definitive experience I can.
I also run an independent label for Experimental Industrial, Noise and Darkwave acts called Sinful Wish Records as of the beginning of this year and the work I am putting out on it at the moment is truly something I can appreciate.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to make whatever the f*ck I want and not having to conform to what people expect of me. I am a firm believer of making art for yourself first, then displaying it out into the wild, where the people who care about it and enjoy it will flock and consume at their own discretion. It’s like taking a piece of yourself, quite literally, and giving it to anyone who wants to indulge. It’s truly beautiful.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It’s as simple as putting work out regularly, but not too often. You never want to release a shit ton of work all at once, fans usually don’t want a high volume of work dumped on them unless it was announced that way. Basic promoting, sending my music to my DJ friends in the community and other things like playing shows, rubbing shoulders with fellow artists in the local scene and hopping onto other artist’s releases as a feature or remixer are all factors into how to get your name out there and start growing the guerillas. The geurillas being your miniscule, yet ride or die fanbase who will always cherish your work. Those are the most important fans you want, and DON’T PISS OFF THE F*CKING FANS.
