We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sineice Ladson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sineice , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
Getting my first client was one of the most scary, surprising, exciting opportunities I’ve experienced. In 2017, by word of mouth, I received my first business client and transaction at $500. It began with me networking offline and finally having the confidence to broadcast my skills. I felt that was one of my biggest fears, putting myself out there, but it came with a huge reward. My first client messaged me on Facebook acknowledging that she was referred to me by a friend of hers. I didn’t personally know her friend and with no previous clients it was surprising that someone actually mentioned me. Being new to the industry, I was anxious, but also happy and ready to begin the journey. From Facebook messenger, my first client and I had a phone conversation, then scheduled an in-person meeting. What bothered me most, is the risk of not being successful and delivering unsatisfactory work, but I knew I had what it took and would give my all. With that, my first client fortunately made the process the smoothest and set the tone for my ongoing success.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Being a born creative, driven by growth and grounded in authenticity complements my pure passion for life and strong desire to service others. Deriving from a small country town of South Carolina, I always longed to discover more about the world, and myself even. As a natural artist, I was always very imaginative, which led to my relentless determination in living out my dreams. Taking risks to explore is how I would begin finding my path. I made sacrifices, faced fears and ultimately began serving my purpose. In high school, after a career professional piqued my interest in Public Relations, I went on to obtain a bachelor’s and master’s degree in the field. From there, I began my own freelance service helping others promote their businesses. Now 5 years later, I’ve worked with entrepreneurs, small businesses, influencers, celebrities and others in building their brands. I began offering a variety of design, marketing and promotional services but have narrowed it down based on identifying my target audience and niche. Currently, I develop, manage and customize Public Relations campaigns for clients in creative fields, helping people reach their business goals affordably, all-in-one. Over time, I learned that my talent as an artist set me a part because I have a strong ability to easily materialize the visions of others. Also, having worked in several industries as a manager, teacher, trainer, administrator and other roles strengthened my problem-solving and leadership skills. I am truly most proud of being an example of success as well as being able to motivate, empower and celebrate others in their life journey. Also, as a side note, I still create beautiful art, painting and drawing as a hobby that I happily accept offers for.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I will never forget the emotions of having to pivot in life at the start of my thirties. After having what I considered success at the time, in my early twenties, with a nice career in new city, I found myself moving back home with my parents a few years later. I became unhappy with my current situation, lost my job and motivation which ultimately led to my idea of failure. At this point in my life, I wanted to go after more, but didn’t know how. I became extremely frustrated and with support, made a conscious decision to start over. This felt like by far one of my toughest challenges, but presently, has been one of the biggest blessings in disguise. Moving back with my parents, I was able to redefine myself, what I wanted and build the foundation for my business. Fortunately, they were very uplifting allowed me to gain a sense of renewal, peace and a fresh start.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My biggest mission is for my light to be a shining, bright example to others. The end goal for me is to reach as many people as I can and pour into their hearts and their purpose. Also, having the opportunity to work with children over the years has really been a driving factor for me. I would love the consistent opportunity to creatively reach kids, expose them to new experiences and fulfill them with knowledge that leads to success and freedom. Overall, seeing people joyously live out their dreams and being able to contribute is what energizes my journey.
