We were lucky to catch up with Sinead and Mairead Atkinson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sinead and Mairead, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?

Our first proper TTE client was a dear friend of ours, and one of the people who made our dream as professional performers come true in the first place: our former voice teacher. When she hired us for our first big event at a very grand location for her daughter’s first birthday, we were beyond excited, not to mention honored that out of all her incredibly successful students, she chose the two of us to make this magic happen for her family.

We performed as classic Wonderland characters in an amazing character dining-style interaction for her guests at the gorgeous Garden City Hotel, a breathtaking location on its own! We put all our musical, improvisation, and character experience skills to good use, and it was such an amazing and life-changing experience for the both of us. Our voice teacher helped shape us into the performers we are today, and it was truly wonderful to get to show her just how her teaching transformed us into artists!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We are two sisters who love performing and making magic together! As veteran character performers of ten years and professional stage actors for well over a decade, we specialize in bringing it all: trained vocals, graceful dancing, and engagement for guests of all ages! Not only have we been seen in events and parties across Long Island, we have performed in the greater New York area, New England, the East Coast, and even on national television!

As insured, licensed, and PADI-certified mermaid performers (and Sinead is a NYS-certified teacher), Timeless Tales Entertainment is a safe and welcoming team where your little ones’ needs are our priority.

We offer theme park-quality costuming, impeccable improvisation skills, showstopping vocals, skills in stage combat, dance, and diving: you won’t find a party company quite like ours anywhere else!

How did you build your audience on social media?

As professional mermaid performers, we have built and cultivated a following of fans and clients over the years on our own pages across social media. When we decided to incorporate our mermaid performance into our new business, we boosted Timeless Tales like crazy across our social media.

In addition to our pre-existing base audience, we are very active in the Long Island scene as actors and performers. We try our very best to network, network, network wherever we go. Talking to people never hurts, and we are also not afraid of sending cold emails for amazing new events, either! Our company is all about catering to families, so it’s always wonderful to attend community events and make people smile: we love that aspect of our job the most.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.

We are very cordial with clients past and present. We ensure all our communication is prompt, timely, and friendly, and we always do our best to keep in touch with clients on our email list and on social media! We post party and event photos and video recaps on social media so that clients can re-live these happy memories and share them with friends who weren’t able to attend!

Happy clients become repeat clients, and that’s even better for us in an unexpected way for most entrepreneurs: we get to become a part of these kids’ childhood memories and watch them grow up. Celebrating them over the years alongside their family and friends has been such a gift: we love sending clients photos and reels of their parties and events, and we often send personalized thank-you videos from the characters to the little ones, too. These memories are ones that kids treasure, so we make sure that their birthday is one they’ll never forget!
