We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sindy Warren a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sindy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I founded my life and business coaching business, Blue Tree Coaching, because I believe that there is a strong pull of inertia that drives so many of us in our personal and professional lives. I definitely experienced that in my younger years, from my time practicing law and from my first marriage. I know that when can create amazing things for ourselves and those around us when we get into the driver’s seat, so to speak, drive our own vision of success independent of external noise, and then bring it to life. This is what I’ve done for myself and what I work with my clients to do.
Some of my clients start and grow service-based side gigs, which afford them both a sense of freedom and purpose. Some of my clients forge new professional paths, elevate their leadership, transform their relationships with themselves and their loved ones, and/or navigate life transitions with more skill than they ever thought possible.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my career as a Stanford educated lawyer and worked in big law firms in San Francisco, Boston, and Cleveland. I left the traditional practice of law to start my own HR consulting business nearly 20 years ago. Around the same time, I fell in love with the practice and philosophy and yoga and became a yoga and meditation teacher as well. These professional experiences converged into my coaching business that I launched in 2019, when I decided I wanted to make a more direct impact on the personal, professional, and mental well-being of my clients.
I work with people as a 1:1 coach on all things life and business. I also have a lifetime access program called Side Gig School (and a podcast by the same name), where I teach people of all ages and backgrounds how to start and grow successful service-based side gigs.
I help my clients drive their own definition of success and then work with them to bring it to life. Self-determination is a huge value of mine, as I know that when we are free to create and curate our own professional and personal lives, we feel more lasting contentment and fulfillment.
I created the Reversible Fulfillment Methodology to help my clients bring these concepts to life.
I’m a true muti-hyphenate: lawyer/entrepreneur/yogi/and also a published author — and I love helping people find their own special sauce in life!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that our paths are pretty much laid out for us at a young age. I grew up in an era where most people found their careers right out of school and stayed in them until they retired. I ended up challenging this model of what it means to be a “professional” when I stepped off of the traditional law firm path. I’ve continued to reinvent and refine myself, and I actually did not start my coaching business until I was in my late 40s!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
It’s really important to care deeply about the craft of your work. I take my coaching work very seriously and my business has grown, in large part, through referrals and word of mouth. I’ve invested a lot in my own learning – both time and money – and am continually asking myself how I can serve my clients at the highest level.
