We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sinclair Salters a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sinclair, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I Didn’t find a question or topic line that fit what we do per say but I selected the one that fits what we do. sorry.
So I am a full-time Outreach urban missionary. I am the founder of a Christian non-profit called 4runners4Christ (4runners4christ.com). Feel free to visit our website to get a more visual description.
Mission Statement: Our Mission is to help men and women run after the Person and priority of Christ resulting in a transformed life by the power of the Holy Spirit.
“4runners4christ” is a boots on the ground ministry. It is not a church and there is no building per say. It is an engaging missionary and prayer movement. Our goal is to help men and women pursue the principles and person of Jesus Christ resulting in sustainable and transformed lives. Our goal is to come along side those who are open to the power of the gospel of Christ , teaching them the word of God and training them to teach it to others. Raising up other 4Runners to raise more 4runners.
Inner City Focus
We are deeply moved by issues impacting our community. Instability and dysfunction permeate our culture. The Urban
American community is exponentially affected by these issues. Because there is no mobilizing and engaging presence
in our community, destructive cycles continue to violate and destroy families. Therefore our goal is to reach theses
families by constantly being present in the communities that are effected the most. We want to see effective, sustaining, reproducing Christ centered communities in the inner city across the nation that will in turn equip other believers to live victorious lives and reach urban families for Christ – both in their neighborhoods and the world at large. The ministry consists of bible studies , men forums , small group studies, monthly prayer initiatives, community outreach, yearly partnership with CIU for inner city basketball camp, in school mentoring through daybreak ministries, and one on one discipleship.
4Runners4Christ Name
At age 16, I began cultivating a musical gift around christian rap music. His mentors began to call him 4Runner as his “rap” name. Many years later Sinclair truly believes this name was given prophetically as he grew and matured into his calling to be a carrier of Gods Holy word. The name originates from John the Baptist who was a 4 runner for the coming of the Christ .(Scripture reference : Mark 1:3, Matthew 3:1-3 ,Isaiah 40:3)
The body of Christ is NOW 4Runners for the second coming of the Lord!!!
***May we all wake up to the 4Runner spirit that is upon us as we prepare the way of the Lords
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Sinclair was raised in Columbia SC. He graduated from C.A. Johnson High School in 1995. In May 2015 he received his Ministerial License from the Ecumenical Church of Columbia SC. On May 31st 2020 Sinclair received an associates degree in cross style theology through Ecumenical University worldwide. He continues his ministry training and professional development to equip him and build his capacity for ministry. At age 16, Sinclair began cultivating a musical gift around rap music. That gift is still going strong today. In addition to preaching the Gospel to the masses, his musical gift allows him to minister through Christian hip-hop rap. This door of opportunity helps him make connections and draw youth and young adults through hip-hop music. Sinclair feels called of God to the mission field. This calling keeps him as close as the streets of Columbia SC ministering to the disenfranchised but has also taken him as far away as Nicaragua. His first missionary visit to Nicaragua in 2016 had such profound impact that he was invited back a few months later to minister to additional communities in the area. He is an Evangelist whose heart is to see lives transformed through the loving power of Jesus Christ and God’s sacred Scriptures.
Sinclair’s overall call to serve focuses on the down trodden, fatherless, voiceless and the forgotten within urban communities. He is passionate about Jesus and desperate to make Christ known to others. He is a man who lives an authentic Christian faith. He currently spends most of his time sharing his faith and making followers of Jesus Christ. His discipleship ministry includes training new believers who are able to disciple others as well. Sinclair lives in Columbia SC, with his beautiful wife, Jami Salters and three wonderful daughters and grandchildren.
“Sinclair and Jami are a “ministry power couple” who willingly go wherever God sends them to care for His people. They have hearts that are Kingdom-focused. They are selfless, courageous, and willing to do the “hard work of ministry”. They will pursue the lost, have hard conversations, and declare the gospel—whenever and wherever God directs. They are the most unconditionally loving people I know. Their passion for Christ is reflected in their heart for people.”
Most Recent Goal: Currently in Seminary School getting my Masters in Public Theology. My degree will bring value to the urban outreach ministry i am over
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn was understanding converting to Christ is simple, you confess and believe. becoming a transformed disciple of Christ is where the hard work comes in. for years I would spend my time doing events and putting on Christians shows, kind of a one-an-done. thinking this alone would impact a persons life significantly but I realized true discipleship and growing in the faith is more caught than taught. I was willing to talk to a crowd of young men and women for 20 minutes, but unwilling to walk with for 20 years mentoring the one or two preparing them to be future husbands, and fathers, businessman and citizens. This is the biggest lesson so I had to re-vamp my vision a bit.
Have you ever had to pivot?
what i do is a full time need and it takes a full time presences when it comes to pouring into peoples lives. caring for people in the time of trouble. I knew the Lord was calling to be full time but i didn’t know how. I had a family with kids, working a full-time job. Because of the nature of what i do, part-time would be extremely hard.
And God knew I didn’t have the faith to leave my job. So i began to get comfortable. at the time i got promoted to a great position, forgetting what God called me to. One evening I decided to do something i hadn’t done in like 20 years, play full court physical basketball. I’m 40 at the time and i didnt get the memo that 40 years old’s are not suppose to play with 19year olds. and yes you guessed it i got severely hurt injured my knee so bad that i could not do my Job effectively.
Make a long story short in the hospital, sad and depleted my wife looked at me like she was possessed by an angel and said with a message from heaven again, you know you are not going back on a second Job again. and I knew what she meant. from there God used the results of my poor decision making for his Glory and here I am living off of sponsership funds and donations 6 years later to be an ambassoder of Jesus
