We were lucky to catch up with Si’mone ‘DJ Monie’ Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Si’mone ‘DJ Monie’, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
As a full-time DJ, I revel in the lifestyle and career that exudes luxury, excitement and fulfillment all at once. Being in command of my bookings and deciding the amount of money I make is exhilarating. Every booking is meticulously selected to ensure I’m aligning myself with events and brands that match my vibe and support my goals. I love the freedom of having full control over my earnings, allowing me to indulge in the finer things in life. Although there have been a few moments where I’ve questioned everything, it’s a small price to pay for the fulfillment I get from being my own boss and setting my own rules. Without a doubt, being able to do what I love every day – inspire people through music, it’s an absolute dream come true.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Back in February 2020, I made the big move to Vegas with the hope of finding new opportunities and shaking up my life a little. Little did I know, a global pandemic was around the corner and we were all confined to our homes. But you know what they say, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade! I decided to take up DJing, ordered the necessary equipment and began teaching myself the craft. Thankfully, when the world opened up again, the Vegas scene welcomed me with open arms and my DJ career took off!
Fast forward two and a half years, and I felt like it was time for another change. A few weeks ago, I packed my bags, sold all my belongings and decided to hit the road again, heading east this time to explore new places and expand my brand. And boy, has it been a wild ride! I’ve met so many cool people and landed some awesome gigs, all while following my dreams and taking those necessary risks. It just goes to show that sometimes, you have to be resilient and trust the journey.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I feel incredibly fortunate for all the talents that I possess, but it’s frustrating when people try to pigeonhole me into a specific “box”. I believe that my gifts are meant to be shared with as many people as possible. My dream is to make a lasting impact on the music industry and the world at large, both through my creative output and my philanthropic efforts. Ultimately, I just want to make a difference and continue my family’s legacy (shoutout to the Hughes fam!).
