We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Simon Pucheu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Simon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I worked on was for Riot Games, The Chambers Reveal music.
I met my friend Karel Psota at a party in LA, and we instantly became friends. We started playing video games together online, and we had the same passion for French House Music, Daft Punk, Justice…
I knew he was a talented producer, but I never worked with him, one day we decided to do a fun session of “Let’s do music” but with no precise goals in mind. And we did some pretty cool French house music, so we sent it to a label, and they asked us for an entire Album of that because they liked it.
A year later we had 6 tracks, Yes one year… we did around 100 revisions of mixes per track, because Karel is an absolute maniac when it comes to mixing. But the result was that 1 week prior to the release of the Album, one of the track was already sold to Riot Games. And it is still to this day the project I am the proudest of.

Simon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started, like a lot of people in the Film Scoring industry, by being an Assistant at Remote Control.
I was first working for Henry Jackman, I then worked for Steven Davis, and finally for one of my idol Danny Elfman.
At the same time I was also working for Advertising Labels, Sync Labels and a K-pop Music Studio.
I was trying a bit of everything at the same time, then suddenly I started having more and more placement of my own music, so I stopped working for other people and started only working for myself.
That is what I have been doing for the past 5 years now, and I love it. I still work with other composers and labels, of course, but being my own boss and writing my own music every day is the lifestyle I prefer.
What I like about it is I get to write a Pop Track on Monday, an Adventure Film scoring music on Wednesday and a Jazz theme on Friday, things are most of the time different and it keeps the work exciting.
I also started to work on my own Sound Design company that is soon to be released.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
When I started as a composer, I was always trying to do as much project as I could, be working on everything with everyone at the same time.
Now my focus moved to making the best tracks as possible, I am always trying to make something good, and I am never submitting any music until I really believe in it.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Clearly, when you hear your music in the theater or on TV, it is a really rewarding feeling.
I also had the chance to work with some of my idols, and it is also a great moment when the producer/composer you listen to since you are young is working in the same room as you.
