Alright, Simi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?

As a little girl I enjoyed art and anything related to makeup and fashion. I would make fashion designs for my dolls. I tried to do their makeup with sharpies, give them different hairstyles and I would make clothes from old fabrics my grandmother would give me. Through out the years I would sit in my room for hours practicing makeup and doing unique photoshoots. I even got accepted into an art school which I was only able to attend for a year because my family decided to move to United States in 2011. Knowing what I know now, I think I would of continued to post videos and not cared about what other people think. The most essential skills I learned are how to use social media marketing and of course the art it self. These two quotes are very essential to me “If you want to be rich, never give up. People tend to give up. If you have persistence, you will come out ahead of most people.” & “what if it doesn’t come true? ah, but what if it does.” The obstacles that stood in my way of learning more are being an immigrant and young women. I moved out of my parents house at 18 and I’ve been on my own since. I think if I have more support from my family I could of had more opportunities but if it wasn’t for the struggles I wouldn’t be the same person I am today.

My name is Simi Violet and I’m a beauty and lifestyle content creator based in the tri-state area. My content teaches women to feel empowered, confident and let’s us be creative. Fashion, hair and makeup are an amazing way to express our creativity and teaches us that we should not censor ourselves to comfort ignorance! I grew up in Slovakia (eastern Europe) and as a little girl I always played around with my mothers makeup and clothes. I would make my own fashion designs and tried to bring them to life. I had a blog where I would post all the latest trends and around the same time I made my YouTube channel, which I actually got bullied for. A year later (2011) we moved to United States and as a first generation immigrant I knew I had to work hard and continue pursuing my dreams. I went from not speaking English to giving fluent speeches. The passion for art, beauty and fashion continued to grow. Shortly after graduating high school (2017) I saved up money from waitressing to purchase my first camera. I remember standing outside of Target in the freezing cold on Black Friday, but it was all worth it. Few weeks later I started to post videos on YouTube regularly. Then I started to grow a following on Instagram and TikTok. The content I create varies from glam and gore to fashion try-ons. In between all of it I launched lash company called KillerKat lashes (2021) and Amazon Book store (2022). Currently I’m in the works of launching few other projects.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

Yes, like mentioned previously as an immigrant I always had this mentality of wanting to build a family legacy and that’s always been my drive in this exciting journey. I live in a country full of opportunities and to waste it would be a shame! I want to be successful and thrive doing what I love the most. I want people with similar backgrounds to have platform where they can feel empowered, confident and heard.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is I do what I love. I am my own boss. I get to work with a lot of amazing brands and people. I can help others feel empowered and teach them no matter how hard your struggles are never give up.
