We were lucky to catch up with Sima Khondekar recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sima, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today?

I started my business about four years ago with a simple dream to guide people toward natural and organic ways of caring for their hair. With patience and dedication, that vision slowly took root. In the beginning, I had no clients at all, and step by step, I built lasting relationships. Today, most of the people who sit in my chair return regularly, and I consider them friends more than customers. Creating healthy hair is a journey we take together—discovering not only beauty but also presence and care.

I am trained as an expert colorist and have spent years refining natural hair care treatments. My purpose has always been to help others feel confident and cared for. To me, beauty is not only about hair—it is about uplifting the spirit and connecting with people sincerely.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

The journey has not been without challenges. Behind the scenes, I work constantly—not only as a stylist, but also as the owner and the person responsible for every detail of Naturally Sima. I show up for community events, meet new people, and continue learning. It requires discipline and balance.

As a single mother of a teenage daughter, my greatest challenge has been finding the time to grow a business while being present at home. Yet through those sacrifices, I have learned resilience, gratitude, and the importance of setting an example for my daughter—that with faith and effort, anything is possible.

Naturally Sima Salon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

Naturally Sima is centered on healthy hair and mindful beauty. I specialize in organic hair color and natural repair treatments, drawing from my roots in India where I learned at an early age the value of natural ingredients in both food and care.

Over the years, I’ve created simple natural hair masks and scalp care to restore hair’s shine and vitality. My clients often describe their results as radiant, and some lovingly call me their “miracle stylist.” But what matters most to me is that they feel nurtured, cared for when they leave.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?

For me, success is not measured by titles or numbers—it is found in living with gratitude and using my passion to bring light to others. I feel blessed to be surrounded by love at home, to share a strong bond with my daughter, and to live a simple, healthy life.

Giving back is also part of my purpose. Through my program called NOOR, which means “light,” I offer free to low cost hair care to help others. These small acts of kindness remind me that what we give returns in many ways.

True success, to me, is a life filled with humility, gratitude, and the joy of uplifting others.

To me all of this measures into a happy fulfilled life. That is my success story!
