Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Silvia Ferrer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Silvia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I’ve had several defining moments in my career. The one I chose to share today is when I took my first job abroad in 2002.
As little background: I was born and raised in Maracaibo (Venezuela), and following its traditions I did my school and college education there. After graduating from my Bachelor in Engineering I started to work in the company where my mom worked for 40 years. It was kind of natural, but it didn’t feel right for me.
There I was, in my early twenties working for a project when I was approached by a person from an external consulting company about a job opportunity in Caracas.
Something immediately ignited in me, an inner voice that said go for it! I went through the whole interview process and the so much awaited call came on a Thursday morning. I had been selected, but with one condition: I had to move to Dominican Republic on Sunday of the same week.
It won’t be enough space here to tell you all the reasons why I could have said no, but I didn’t. I said ‘yes, just send the paperwork, and let’s start with the travel arrangements’.
For some cultures this could be kind of normal, but not in the one I grew up in.
Looking back, here are my main lessons:
-Trust your inner voice
-Don’t be afraid of uncertainty
– You can always go your own way following your path
-It’s better to try than having the doubt of “if I would have…”
-Believe in yourself. Even when you don’t feel fully prepared
-You can co-create opportunities with the universe, but then you need to be willing to take them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
After almost 20 years of corporate jobs I decided to quit and take a sabbatical. I studied different disciplines with the goal of healing and transforming myself through movement and energy. My life improved tremendously, my way of seeing life was different, my reality changed.
When I was supposed to return to corporate, I felt the need of helping others, and it’s when I founded Move Heal Grow Inc. in 2020.
Move Heal Grow provides a holistic approach to help people to take ownership of their wellbeing physically, mentally and spiritually.
I work on 1:1 sessions of Pilates, ThetaHealing and Bioneuroemocion. Online or onsite.
Who comes to Move Heal Grow? People who:
-Are tired of living their life in the same way
-Want to break unhealthy patterns
-Desire to release burdens
-Need to reconnect with themselves
-Choose to comprehend instead of blaming
-Wish to co-create instead of just waiting
– Want to take ownership of their wellbeing and accept they need assistance to work on the blockages that prevent them to live their life at its fullest.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the lessons that I had to unlearn was feeling responsible for certain people in my life. I tried to save them from themselves and I failed every single time. In my case, it was family, partners and close friends.
It came that day when I realized that I was disconnected from myself by not living my own life, not following my own journey, not being able to enjoy and celebrate my achievements, not listening to myself.
With the help of wonderful people, I learnt to care and love differently. Understanding that you can’t change no one except yourself, you can’t mitigate their pain by suffering yourself, you are not responsible to fulfill their dreams, not to carry their traumas.
We can just accompany, assist and specially respect the life that every person chooses to live. Then you decide how close do you want to be.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Even though I’m not a big fan of going back to the past, the answer is YES. I truly believe that brought me where I’m today, gave me the opportunity of living in 5 different countries and knowing wonderful people. The journey was not always smooth, but I would definitely not change it.
I remind myself very often that the decisions of the past got me where I’m today, with the good and the no so good, and I that I did the best I could with the knowledge and consciousness of that time… But the decisions I made today are the ones building my present and set the foundations of my future.
