We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Silvana Arbak a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Silvana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
They didn’t get mad when I started drawing on walls, chairs, and important documents. Everything around me was a drawing pad. Eventually, I learned to draw on paper. They always supported me in all my artistic endeavors, even when I decided to quit my architecture studies to switch to Graphic Design, a pretty new career back then, and nobody knew what it was about.
Silvana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always wanted to work in art, illustration, or graphics. That’s why I started studying Graphic Design in college, a new emerging career back then. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, I worked in several fields, such as printing and publishing, and gradually transitioned into my own business.
Currently, I freelance and take care of customers in person or remotely. Even though I have an extensive spectrum of services, the most requested at the moment are logo design and branding. My clients are entrepreneurs and business owners, and when starting a new business, they have many questions, so I coach them about starting one. I offer Graphic Design and business coaching. I’m also a mindset coach, and it helps me guide them.
This sets me apart from others. In addition, I developed my logo design process, which guarantees customer satisfaction. When they hire me, they get my 27 years of experience and don’t use templates or clip-arts, often confused as logos. I don’t use third parties services, I work directly with the client, so it’s a one-on-one process.
At the end of the logo design process, I’m most proud that when clients see their dream of starting a business come true, and I was part of their initial journey.
I’m also a photographer and artist. I work on digital art, acrylic, and most recently incorporated paper cut art, where I fusion drawings with mandala artwork to create unique pieces that transform from day to night when their LED lights turn on. It’s a magical world where these pieces bring serenity and calmness to their collectors and their spaces. They are also ideal for gazing meditation.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is alignment. When I work with a client to create their logo, my job is to align with their ideas, vision, and mission; it’s not about me; it’s about them. The process creates a unique synergy that is very interesting to experience. The final creation is the result of it.
On the other hand, when I create an art piece, those who resonate with my soul will align with my artwork and become my collector. In this case, the audience aligns with my vision.
They are two approaches with different intentions and outcomes, and in the process, alignment takes place. I find this fascinating.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My missions have changed through the years as I changed as well. One of my current missions is to help people develop and get clarity in the foundation of their business, project, or start-up through Graphic Design, mentorship, and building the mindset to pursue their endeavor. Sometimes mental blocks can be crucial in developing new projects, and I love to help people to resolve them.
I also encourage meditation as an essential tool for their business and personal life.
In regards to art, my mission is to offer pieces that not only decorate but help people to relax and create a joyful and peaceful environment in their homes or place of work. Creating functional art is my new source of joy.
My newest creation is a clothing line that I started last year. I want people to smile when they wear the clothes and when others see them. To eradicate boredom in clothing :)
