Alright, Signy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
I have been a men’s wardrobe stylist for over 11 years. I love helping my clients by creating a laser-focused wardrobe for their professional and social events. From finding clothes that flatter their body to reflecting their personal style and preferences.
I love seeing the confidence my clients exude when they step out in outfits I’ve thoughtfully put together. To further simplify their lives, I create virtual-style boards exclusively for my top clients. These personalized boards become their go-to resource, making packing for any business or personal trip a breeze! My clientele primarily consists of busy executives who lead demanding lives and barely have the time to contemplate their attire. Therefore, my aim is to make dressing up an effortless task for them. They understand the significance of looking and feeling their absolute best, and I’m passionate about making that a reality.
Building a strong relationship with each client is important to me. I want to fully understand their lifestyle so that I can provide smart and tailored suggestions for their wardrobe.

Signy is a Detroit-based wardrobe stylist. She’s passionate about fashion and has a natural eye for putting together great outfits. From helping her friends with their fashion dilemmas, Signy has always loved expressing herself through clothes. First impressions are powerful. Signy followed her heart and turned her passion for creating stylish looks into a thriving full-time career. She left the corporate world to pursue her dreams as a wardrobe stylist in 2012, and hasn’t looked back since. What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My approach to growing my clientele includes 4 tools
1. I love utilizing social media to showcase my business! It’s such an incredible platform that allows me to share exciting new products, offer helpful style tips, and highlight amazing promotions. It allows me to have genuine conversations and build meaningful relationships with my clients (& potential clients), rather than solely focusing on transactions. I have found it to be an invaluable tool in growing my business.
2. I create a monthly style tip (newsletter). It’s a free and effortless way to connect with my clients and stay on their radar. I love providing these fashion insights, knowing they may learn something new.
3. Customer satisfaction is essential for a successful business. I show my appreciation to my first-time customers with a personalized handwritten card. For all subsequent orders, I take the time to check in and ensure they are pleased with their new pieces. My goal is for my clients to share their positive experiences with friends and colleagues.
4. Lastly, Word-of-mouth marketing can be a powerful tool! It’s all about clients sharing their positive experiences. Plus, I offer a referral program. It is a great incentive, a Referrer can earn $50 in credits for each new client they refer who spends $500 or more on their first order. This is the most effective tool.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve gone through so many transitions in my life – multiple moves, raising a child with special needs, and a husband who frequently travels to Miami. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s taught me to adapt and persevere. I began my journey with J.Hilburn in Dallas, and it was the perfect starting point for my business since their headquarters is also located there. Over the course of 5 years, I was able to build a solid client base and establish myself thanks to the brand’s strong reputation. However, life took us to Westchester County, NY when my husband got a new job opportunity. Living in the Tri-State area, I expanded my client list and even started mentoring other Stylists. And then in 2019, we moved to Michigan, once again following my husband’s career path. Change can be challenging, but it has pushed me to grow both personally and professionally.
It’s been a journey adjusting to my husband’s weekly travels, however, my kids and I are making the most of our “new normal”. Like any other family, we have our ups and downs along the way.
My biggest challenge has been finding the best ways to support our amazing son, who is 19 years old and has special needs. It can be emotionally and physically exhausting; navigating the healthcare systems, figuring out life after high school, fostering independence, and addressing societal perceptions. It truly feels like a juggling act, constantly trying to find what works best for his overall well-being and growth.
Entrepreneurship is an incredible journey that requires self-awareness. Many believe it’s a breeze because of the flexibility it offers. However, to triumph as an entrepreneur, a clear vision is vital. Continuous learning, adaptability, and resilience are also key. Personally, my biggest challenge is establishing a strong network, especially with all the moves I’ve made. I’ve discovered that practicing gratitude is paramount. Hard work, determination, dedication, and authenticity will undoubtedly guide me toward success as a mother, wife, businesswoman, entrepreneur, and friend.
