We were lucky to catch up with Sierra Walker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sierra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It all started with a desire for something more. I was stuck in a cycle of dead-end, low-paying jobs. I worked long hours, feeling unfulfilled, and was constantly stressed about my financial situation. I knew I wanted something more, something that gave me flexibility and control over my future. I had always been passionate about helping people, and I had a knack for organization and detail-oriented tasks. I realized I could put these skills to use in a way that could also give me the freedom I craved.
Then the pandemic hit. Suddenly, the world was looking for new ways to do business, and I saw a unique opportunity in notary services. At the time, I was still working as a paralegal, and one day, I realized that I could actually become a notary myself, a role that would allow me to have control over my schedule, work from anywhere, and help people in a way that truly mattered.
I dove in headfirst with $300 and no real business experience. I started by offering basic notary services, and as I gained more knowledge, I expanded into specialized areas like apostilles and loan signings. The logic behind it was simple: people always need documents notarized, and as long as there were contracts, legal agreements, and documents to be signed, there would be a steady stream of business. I realized that this wasn’t just a job—it could become a thriving business that gave me the financial freedom and flexibility I had been seeking.
As I built Notable Notary, I quickly realized there was a bigger purpose I could serve: helping others navigate the complexities of the notary business. I saw so many people struggling to find resources and mentorship, and I felt compelled to fill that gap by offering notary education. This wasn’t just about business growth for me—it was about empowering others to succeed, share in the same freedom and flexibility I had discovered, and build businesses that worked for their lives. That’s when I decided to launch The Notary Blueprint (TNB), my notary education company, to help aspiring notaries build their own successful businesses. TNB wasn’t just about teaching the basics of notarization; it was about empowering people to build a thriving business with strategies for marketing, client acquisition, business solutions, and balancing work and life.
Through TNB, I’ve had the privilege of helping over 5000 people grow their notary businesses, many of whom are now making between $5,000 and $10,000+ per month. TNB is now the # 1 notary education company serving both Canada and the USA, offering resources like webinars, coaching, and marketing materials. Our mentorship program, The Notary Business Blueprint®, has been a game-changer for people looking for step-by-step guidance and real-world insights. It’s not just about business strategies—it’s about offering people the confidence to step into entrepreneurship and achieve financial independence.
The vision for The Notary Blueprint has always been clear: to create a space where notaries can thrive by offering educational resources that help them succeed in a way that fits their unique lifestyle. And, it’s working. I’m constantly inspired by the success stories I hear from mentees, whether it’s someone who was able to leave their full-time job or a parent who found a flexible side business that provides the income they need.
Looking back, I knew this was a worthwhile endeavour because I wasn’t just solving a problem for myself—I was creating a solution for others. The notary business wasn’t just a job; it was a platform for helping people take control of their futures. With Notable Notary, I provide trusted notary services, and with The Notary Blueprint, I offer the tools and mentorship to help others create their own successful notary businesses.
That’s what truly excites me—the impact I’ve been able to make. The Notary Blueprint is not just an educational company; it’s a community where people can achieve the success they’ve always dreamed of. The ability to serve notaries across both Canada and the USA is what truly makes this unique, and I’m proud to say that we’re leading the way in notary education.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Sierra Walker, the founder of The Notary Blueprint, the leading notary education company serving both the USA and Canada. I’m also the owner of Notable Notary, my own notary business. My journey into the notary world started back in early 2021 during the pandemic when I was looking for a way to make extra income. At the time, I was working a corporate job as a contracts legal assistant, earning around $35K–$40K a year, but I knew I wanted more financial freedom and flexibility. With just $300 to invest and no prior business experience, I jumped in, learned everything I could, and quickly scaled my notary business to making $5K–$10K+ per month, even while working full-time.
In April 2022, I landed my dream job as a full-time corporate paralegal for one of the Top 100 employers in Toronto. I worked in this role while running my notary business on the side, balancing both careers successfully. But as much as I had worked hard to get that position, I realized in early 2023 that my true passion wasn’t in the corporate world—it was in helping other notaries build successful businesses and create financial freedom for themselves. That’s when I made the decision to go all in on my notary business and mentorship. By May 2024, I officially quit my corporate job and became a full-time notary and mentor.
Through The Notary Blueprint, I now help thousands of aspiring and active notaries start, structure, and scale their businesses. My goal is to simplify the process, eliminate the guesswork, and help notaries build a business that works for their lifestyle—whether that means making an extra $500 a month or hitting six figures.
What I Offer:
I provide step-by-step education, coaching, and business resources tailored to notaries at all stages, from beginners to seasoned professionals. Inside The Notary Business Blueprint®, my mentorship program, members get access to training, live coaching, community support, and exclusive resources to grow their notary business with confidence. I also offer strategy sessions, courses, digital products, and done-for-you resources to make the journey easier.
On the notary services side, Notable Notary offers online notarization, mobile notary services, apostille authentication, real estate closings, estate planning signings, and more. I focus on providing fast, reliable, and professional services for individuals and businesses needing documents notarized efficiently.
What Sets Me Apart:
There are plenty of people teaching notary business strategies, but what makes The Notary Blueprint different is that I don’t just teach theory—I’ve lived it. I built my business while working a demanding job, so I understand the struggles of balancing work, family, and life while trying to grow a side hustle. I also make sure my mentorship program and resources are practical, actionable, and realistic, helping notaries make money without having to rely on loan signings or other high-competition notary services, if that’s not their thing. Plus, I cater to both the U.S. and Canadian notary markets, which is rare in this space.
Another thing that sets me apart is my modern, relatable, and engaging approach. I break things down in a way that’s easy to understand and create content that’s fun, informative, and motivating—whether it’s through social media, webinars, or in person events.
What I’m Most Proud Of:
– Helping over 5,000 notaries build successful businesses.
– Growing The Notary Business Blueprint® to over 300 members in 1.5 years.
– Making over $70K as a part-time notary before going full-time.
– Purchasing my dream car, paying off debts and saving $30K+ for my dream home through my notary business.
– Expanding my reach and community support with viral content, guest speaking, and brand deals.
– Building a supportive community where notaries feel confident and empowered.
What I Want People to Know:
If you’re thinking about becoming a notary or growing your business, it’s possible to do this—even with a full-time job, kids, or no prior experience. You don’t need to do it alone or waste months trying to figure it all out. I’ve created The Notary Blueprint to give you the roadmap, support, and strategies you need to succeed. Whether you’re just getting started, struggling to get clients, or looking to scale, I can help you turn your notary commission into a profitable business that works for you.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started my notary business in 2021, I had zero social media presence—no audience, no following, nothing. But I knew that if I wanted to get clients and grow my business, I needed to put myself out there. At first, I was just posting randomly, hoping something would stick, but once I started treating my social media like a business tool instead of just a hobby, things changed.
My first viral videos were actually about how much money I’ve made as a notary through general notary work. I broke down what I was charging, how I was getting clients, and how other people could do the same. Those videos racked up over 5 million views combined, and that’s when I realized: people aren’t just curious about what a notary does—they want to know how to make money doing it. Once I leaned into that content—showing the possibilities, breaking down real numbers, and making the process feel attainable—my audience exploded.
But beyond just sharing numbers, I think what truly helped me build my audience is that I don’t gatekeep. I share real strategies, real experiences, and real results. I combine education with humour, making my content engaging while also giving people the exact tools they need to succeed. My approach is genuine, and I think that’s apparent to my community. Not a day goes by where someone doesn’t thank me for my content and how it has inspired or encouraged them. That’s what keeps me motivated—it’s not just about building an audience, it’s about building a community.
One of the biggest things that made a difference for me was staying consistent. In 2024, I made it a point to show up consistently, even when my content didn’t perform how I expected. My goal was to post 4–6 times a week, and I stuck to that all year—except for when I went on vacation. And that consistency paid off. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, and some posts might flop, but the more you show up, the more opportunities you create for people to find and connect with you.
For anyone just starting:
– Pick a niche & know your audience. Don’t try to talk to everyone—speak directly to the people you want to attract.
– Be consistent. You don’t have to post every day, but you do need to show up regularly so people remember you.
– Don’t just sell—tell a story. The fastest way to lose followers is to only push services. Instead, share your journey, your wins, your struggles, and your lessons.
– Use video. Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts—whatever platform you’re on, video content is king.
– Engage. Social media is a two-way street. Reply to comments, DM people, and actually talk to your audience.
It took time, trial, and error, but today, I’ve built a community of 50,000+ notaries and entrepreneurs (across social media platforms) just by showing up and sharing my journey authentically. If I can do it, so can you!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that “hard work alone equals success.” Growing up, I believed that as long as you work hard, everything will fall into place. But in reality? Hard work alone isn’t enough—you need strategy, boundaries, and the ability to pivot when things aren’t working.
Backstory: When I first started my notary business, I thought if I just put in more hours, hustled harder, and said yes to every client, my business would thrive. I was working a full-time corporate job as a paralegal while juggling my notary business on evenings and weekends. I was burning out, constantly chasing clients, and doing way too much for way too little.
I finally realized that I didn’t need to work harder—I needed to work smarter. I started raising my prices, streamlining my processes, marketing strategically, and saying NO to clients who weren’t a good fit. And guess what? I made MORE money while working LESS.
So, the lesson? Don’t just work hard—work intentionally. Set boundaries, charge your worth, and make sure your effort is actually moving the needle in your business. Because the goal isn’t just to work—it’s to build a business that works for YOU.
