We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sierra Skipper. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sierra below.
Sierra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
As a young girl, I always knew that I wanted to do something impactful. I wanted to change how the world viewed a young black woman who was raised by a single parent & her grandparents. Over the years, I’ve owned multiple businesses. I’ve always been active in my community whether it was church events, outreach or philanthropy. In recent years, I’ve become more interested in the wellbeing of people in my family as well as my community. It prompted me to return back to school to study subjects such as; Massage Therapy, Holistic Nutrition, Life Coaching & the study of Herbalism. Health is a major factor in my field of work and it is important that I educate myself as well as my clients and family about the important of being healthy. Over the years me and my wonderful husband who is a minister of the Christian faith, spoke about expanding the kingdom Christ through business and ministry. Upon talking we bonded over many ideas and services that we both shared a common and strong interest in. One of those ideas, happened to be healing houses, which is based on the knowledge we’ve obtain through studies and experiences, all meant to educate people who may be suffering with disorders & illnesses. It gives me a great boost when I can educate and give people the recommendations that can help turn their lives around, I’ve had people in my family suffer from illnesses for decades and I wanted to be able to give them something that would last for generations.

Sierra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sierra Skipper and I reside in the Metro Atlanta area. I am 30 years old, and I’m married to my wonderful husband, Jerry L. Skipper whom I’ve been married to for 1 year and counting. Back in 2018, I enrolled in school at Georgia Career Institute for Massage Therapy. From there, I became inspired to go deeper into health & wellness and I began to study Holistic Healing, Womb Wellness, The Study of Herbalism, Life Coaching and so much more. I wanted to be able to give my clients a one-stop shop with me. A place where they could receive services, products and education on Health & Wellness. All of my products are organic and plant based. I strive to not just be about the dollar but to give my people something that is healthy and will give the right results. My products range from feminine care, juices and tonics, skin care and much more. What sets me apart I think is that I don’t follow the trends. I’m into Health & Wellness but I also am a Paparazzi Accessories Consultant, best known for fierce “five dollar jewelry”. So as I said, I don’t follow no one else’s rules as to how many lanes I should be in, but what works. And it works. I’m proud of myself because no matter the setbacks and pushbacks I’ve come to face, God always has kept me and my husband, never lacking for anything. He took me from a dark place many years ago and I haven’t looked back. God is the reason why I’m still standing and still pushing forward.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
This is a part of my life that I really don’t to talk about but it is a part of my story. As a young girl, I longed for what I thought was the “picture perfect ideal” life. I grew up in the house with my maternal grandparents. I would watch lifetime movies where the kids would grow up thinking one person was their father, and then years later it would turn out that someone else would be the father. I never knew that it would be my reality at age 19. So at 19, I was faced with relearning who I was as a person. It caused me to question who I was as an individual, as a woman. I made a lot of bad decisions because at the time I don’t think I knew my true identity. Not my paternity but who I was as a person. As a child, you do have those burning questions, you want to know why. Some asked how was I able to still push. I say I had to get a better relationship with God, read and study the Bible and my husband definitely helped me navigate through those tough moments of wanting to lash out at life. But it’s a mental thing. I had to understand that no matter what, forgiveness was the necessary thing to do. Not just forgiving my parents, but I had to forgive myself for letting something that was so unfortunate, control how I treated myself. Today, I’m able to smile, love myself and my husband and enjoy life. It’s a process. It’s like grief. You grieve the person who you thought you were, but another person is birthed once you let it all go. I want little girls, little boys even adults to be inspired to forgive and create the life that they should have. Not to be held captive by what society has said about fatherless or even motherless children. But to get out and defeat the odds. You control how you tell your story and how you navigate through it. I read my Bible daily, fill my mind and space with positivity and continue to grow in God.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson that I would say I had to unlearn was that everyone I know would support my business. I opened my first business in 2015, which was a dance studio called Si Saw Academy. I have been dancing since I was about 9 years old and people would always come to free events whether in a church or venue to support. People would tell me, when you get older you should open a dance studio. Well, when I did, mostly people that I didn’t know would support me, donate, sponsor, etc. Some of my family would too, but it was just a shocker that people you think would, didn’t. So after that experience, I would always do my best to expand my circle and meet new people that could teach me about business and networking. There’s nothing wrong with strangers supporting you. If you have pure intentions and do right by people, God will send those clients/customers to you. Your vision and dream wasn’t given to family, so sometimes they won’t understand but don’t take it personal. Continue to create and fulfill the vision. Get out of your comfort zone.
