Sierra , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
When I first embarked on my entrepreneurial journey, I wore every hat imaginable from lead sales manager, director of marketing, project manager, accountant, resolution specialist, copywriter, editor, distribution specialist, and brand strategist. Needless to say, I was exhausted and running my company on a shoestring budget while hanging on by a thread. It quickly became apparent that to sustain and scale my business, I needed a team. My first hire, an executive assistant, was a game-changer. They helped me regain control of my time, manage my calendar effectively, and enhance the customer onboarding experience.
Recognizing the importance of streamlined operations, my next hire was a project manager. Their role was pivotal in ensuring our customers received a seamless journey from initial contact to the one-on-one sessions with me. This allowed me to focus more on high-level strategies and client engagement rather than getting bogged down in administrative tasks.
As I expanded, I realized the power of collaboration. Building a creative team comprised of graphic designers, photographers, videographers, web developers, editors, and book formatters transformed our output. Through tailored collaborative work, we delivered high-quality content and experiences that resonated with our audience.
Moreover, I understood the significance of strategic partnerships. By aligning with other media firms specializing in niche offerings such as public relations and marketing, we created synergies that benefited our clients immensely. First and foremost, the Bible has been the cornerstone of my personal and business development. Its timeless wisdom and principles have provided guidance and direction in navigating the complexities of both faith and the marketplace. Through its teachings, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about integrity, compassion, leadership, and stewardship, which form the bedrock of my approach to management and entrepreneurship.
In addition to the Bible, I’ve drawn inspiration and insights from various thought leaders and authors who have illuminated different aspects of leadership, personal growth, and business strategy. Bishop T.D. Jakes, for instance, has been instrumental in helping me understand how to integrate my faith and values into my professional endeavors, navigating the duality of faith, ministry, and the marketplace with grace and purpose.
Books like “The Big Leap” and “The Genius Zone” by Gay Hendricks have expanded my capacity to manage success by encouraging me to overcome self-limiting beliefs and unlock my full potential. They’ve taught me the importance of stepping into my zone of genius and embracing growth and expansion in both my personal and professional life.
“Never Split the Difference” by Chris Voss has been invaluable in sharpening my negotiation skills, which have been instrumental in structuring strategic brand partnerships and navigating complex business deals.
