We recently connected with Sierra Hawkins and have shared our conversation below.
Sierra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I am so grateful I get to do what I love and make a full-time living from my creative work. I get to act in major motion pictures and TV projects. I get to write and record music and help listeners process their emotions and feel good about who they are, and now I also love to help others through my business on how to create the life of their dreams just like I was able to do!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am going to tell you a story of how this all came to fruition. I started this journey after I graduated school where I mainly focused on the arts. I moved to Los Angeles to follow my dreams of being a performer. I took a leap, I knew no one, and I had no idea how to break into the entertainment industry. It was scary, but it was the only way I was going to have a chance at having the career that always wanted.
I started out playing open mic nights, and from there I met music promoters who would book shows for me to play, I eventually met more and more people and learned how to climb up the ladder in the music industry. I saved up all my money from hosting at a restaurant recorded music and made my first music video without a budget. From there I continued to play shows and met someone who also worked doing a background in film and TV. I wanted to be on TV!
I asked the questions I needed to and signed up to do background work. I worked my first job doing background. The gig started at 7 pm and I assumed it would only be for a few hours to my surprise I worked until 7 am in the freezing cold in the middle of January wearing summer clothes. I learned a lot that day. I asked other backgrounders tons of questions, remembered everything I needed to, and set a vision for myself. How I was going to get there? No idea, I just knew I needed to be in that atmosphere and something would happen.
I was still working my hosting job and saw a casting post through the background company looking for someone with my attributes and a background in gymnastics. Was this meant for me? I fit the bill perfectly. I walked into the audition and knew I had the job. It was a “photo double” job. I would be working in place of another actor and my face wouldn’t be shown. I was still stoked to potentially work on a huge film and get paid for it! I got the job and had a blast learning all the ropes and what every little thing meant on a set. It was a whole different world and I felt like I belonged there.
I didn’t want to photo double though, I wanted the actual part. To my surprise I overheard the director talking about the part not being cast yet. Why wouldn’t I have the part? I was basically already doing it. So I asked for it. It was a brave thing for me to do. I was a nobody from a small town on my first massive movie production. I got the part! I got it because I was always trying my best, I was kind to everyone around me, eager to learn, and I asked for what I wanted.
From then on I kept the connections I made, and continued to learn, grow, and seize opportunities that would come my way. I now make a full-time living off both music and film and it was all from connecting with others, trying my best, and going after what I wanted even if it was terrifying.
I now help others to fulfill their dreams. After learning what made me so successful was not just the work I put in, but the belief I had in myself, and the belief I had in the universe opening doors for me. I want everyone to live a life they love and I truly believe it’s possible.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, I wish I knew more about the law of attraction and using my intuition even though it was all working for me unknowingly! Once I learned about the law of attraction aka manifestation, embodying the version of myself I wanted to become, and trusting my intuitive gifts (which is what my business is all about!) things really opened up for me, and the life of my dreams in every aspect started unfolding together so beautifully.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The Law of Attraction Book by Esther Hicks and Jerry Hicks, Heal Your Life by Louis Hay, The Teachings of “Manifestation Babe”, “You Are Psychic!” Book by Pete A. Sanders Jr., The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz and of course my workbook: “Living The Dream Journal: A guided journal to tap into your intuition and manifest the life of your dreams”. by Sierra Hawkins
I use my workbook/journal all the time and since I started unbelievable goals have come to fruition for myself and other readers!
