We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sierra Balderas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sierra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started Bewitchin Balloons in September 2020, but the seeds of the business were planted years before that. My journey into event décor began when I planned my own wedding. I took on the entire process with my husband, designing everything from scratch. It was a labor of love that showed me how much I enjoyed creating magical experiences through decoration. After that, I planned my own gender reveal and baby shower, followed by my children’s birthdays, and realized I had a natural knack for designing celebrations.
Holidays and special events have always been a passion of mine. I love transforming spaces and creating moments that make people feel celebrated and special. My spirituality—I’m quite witchy, as I like to say—also plays a huge role. That’s why I named the business Bewitchin’ Balloons, because every event I touch has a bit of magic and love in it.
After realizing this was something I wanted to pursue, I started doing research. I studied the craft, practiced different techniques, and slowly began to invest in materials. I didn’t jump in all at once; it was step-by-step. I worked on creating a social media presence and marketing myself through word of mouth. One of the biggest steps was figuring out how to make the business official—registering it, building a brand, and getting my first clients. It was a combination of passion, learning, and trusting myself that made it all come together.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Sierra, and I’m the founder and magical event stylist behind Bewitchin Balloons. I got into this industry through my love for celebrations and creativity. It all began with planning my own wedding and personal events like my baby shower and children’s birthdays. I realized I had a gift for design, and I loved bringing joy to others through beautiful décor. Eventually, I decided to take my passion and turn it into a business, launching Bewitchin Balloons in September 2020.
At Bewitchin’ Balloons, I provide a wide range of event styling and balloon decor services, specializing in unique, customized designs that transform events into unforgettable experiences. Whether it’s a child’s birthday party, a corporate event, or a special holiday celebration, I bring my clients’ visions to life. I believe what sets me apart is my deep attention to detail, my ability to channel creative energy into each design, and the personal love and magic I put into every project. I’m also very spiritual and love infusing a “witchy” vibe into my work, which makes my brand stand out. It’s about creating a feeling, not just decor.
One of the problems I solve for my clients is taking the stress out of event planning and decor. Planning an event can be overwhelming, but I make it easy by handling all the details and bringing their ideas to life. Whether they have a specific vision or need guidance, I’m here to make the process seamless and fun. What I’m most proud of is the joy my work brings to people. Seeing a client’s face light up when they see the final setup is the best reward.
I want potential clients and followers to know that Bewitchin Balloons is more than just an event décor business—it’s about creating magical moments that people will remember forever. My brand is rooted in passion, creativity, and a genuine desire to make every celebration special. I’m here to help people celebrate their milestones in a way that feels uniquely them, and I put my heart into making every event unforgettable.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media has been a very organic process. From the start, I knew I wanted to show up in a way that felt real and authentic to who I am. I didn’t want to chase follower counts or feel pressured to constantly be online. Instead, I focused on sharing my work in a way that was fun, colorful, whimsical, and true to the magic of Bewitchin’ Balloons. I think people gravitate toward that because it’s genuine—I’m not trying to be something I’m not or follow trends just for the sake of it. Although I do love a good, silly, trendy audio here and there!
I love interacting with people who resonate with my work, and I’m more focused on building a community than just gathering followers. I’ve found that when you show up as your authentic self, people naturally want to connect with you. My content is playful and creative, but there’s no pressure behind it. I don’t stress about posting every day or trying to meet some invisible standard; instead, I show up when I have something magical to share.
For those just starting to build a social media presence, my biggest piece of advice is to be yourself and focus on what makes you happy. Don’t get caught up in numbers or trends—build something you feel proud of. Engage with your audience, but on your terms, and create a healthy boundary with social media so it doesn’t overwhelm you. Authenticity and passion go a long way, and people will notice when you’re having fun with your work.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes, Bewitchin Balloons started as a side hustle and has since turned into my full-time business. I started the business in September 2020 while working from home during the pandemic. My job had sent us home due to COVID restrictions, and during that time, I found myself craving a creative outlet. That’s when I started experimenting with balloon décor, using my love for design and event styling to bring some magic to people’s celebrations.
It was a slow and steady process at first. I was still working my 9-to-5, so I would take on projects on the side, often on weekends. But by February 2022, when I was five months pregnant with my second daughter, I made the bold decision to take a chance on myself and quit my corporate job to pursue Bewitchin Balloons full-time. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Without the constraints of a traditional job, I could fully pour my energy and creativity into my business, and it’s been incredibly rewarding.
A key milestone for me was that leap of faith—deciding to leave the security of a 9-to-5. Another major milestone was building up a strong social media presence, which helped me reach a broader audience and bring in more clients. Over time, word of mouth, consistent marketing, and the unique style I offer allowed the business to grow steadily. Now, I’m able to support my family doing something I love, and that’s been the most fulfilling part of the journey.
