Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sidney Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sidney, thanks for joining us today. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
Shortly after I began advertising my freelance photography services, I became frustrated with how difficult it was to find clients and felt lost. Luckily, I came to the realization through family and friends’ advice that I was too afraid of looking stupid! I utilized my LinkedIn profile and posted my information. I sent messages in my apartment’s group chat. I DMed people on Twitter with my flyer and even though that led to only a few responses, a few prospective clients were better than the nothing I had before I put myself out there. I was proud when I booked my first real client and knew that if I worked hard I could obtain more and meet my goals.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I run and manage my own brand, SEEN WITH SID PHOTOGRAPHY. I mainly provide event, portrait, headshot and graduation photography. My current goal for my business is to provide great quality images for a low price in order to grow my clientele. This is the problem I solve for my clients. Many people shy away from hiring photographers because the prices are incredibly high. I want to help create that middle ground.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What is most rewarding to me is seeing people’s reactions to my photos and their excitement to use the images!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am currently in the beginning stages of building a social media brand. The best advice I can give now is to post when necessary, create a brand deck with colors and fonts, reach out to potential followers and filter comments to keep the spam bots off your page.
