We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sidney Carrier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sidney below.
Sidney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Growing up I had the most perfect parties planned by my Mom — who was Pinterest perfect before it even existed. I am a Nurse by trade, but have always had a passion for party planning. The problem was I did not want to be a party planner that had to work on the weekends because that’s my time with my family( I have two young children). So I planned my daughter’s third birthday went all out, and had someone reach out to me and ask “Can I buy everything you did for that party? Just put it all in a box” … that was my AHA moment. A party in a BOX!
I felt so strongly that this would work that I had the business up and running within a week. Then launched my company and a month later applied for Shark Tank! I made it to round 2/3!
What got me so excited was the fact I was hearing so much positive feedback from these Moms that I was sending party boxes too! Them saying I took the stress from them made me feel like I really was helping people! It is truly a passion of mine to plan & serve others.
Sidney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So like I mentioned, I’m a Nurse but party planning has always been on my mind. I have a very creative (one not to toot my own horn) but I can visualize and come up with ideas on the spot.
My products I provide are all different! Each box is unique and tailored to the theme of the party! In my boxes, I include plates, napkins, cutlery, cups, party favors, hand painted banners, cake toppers, hats, cake knives, etc!
I am most proud of the growth in my company in such a short amount of time.
I am helping busy moms/dads/ people in general fulfill a need. No one really has time to plan a party, especially if they’re working all the time. It gets thrown together last minute with nothing coordinating. That’s why The Box Babe is here to take the stress away from you!
I want my clients and followers to know that I treat you party like it’s my own. I want your party to be perfect, and I strive for that “that was the easiest party ever” comment.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My clientele is from ALL over the world! I ship to so many different states. The best way they found out about me and my business was social media and word of mouth. Once one mom threw a party and tagged me on socials, then their friends all wanted to book me too!
I would say my most effective strategy is being my genuine self. I never try to be perfect— I’m human and my followers see that on my stories all the time. It’s showing up everyday no matter the circumstances and being raw and transparent with them that truly grows your following. People don’t want to watch fake people they want relatable. I feel like I’m a mom of two also and these moms know the struggle of raising babies and being a working mom as well. They see that and want to follow me because it’s real life stuff.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients by texting or calling with them. I’ve had clients tell me “I feel like we’re bestfriends” because I try to form a relationship with these clients as best as possible! Sometimes when planning a party you need opinions and I am the person they go to for that. Whether it be “what outfit should my baby wear for their first birthday?” or “do you like this picture frame by the cake or on the mantle?” I am ALWAYS available to talk with my clients and aid them with anything they need help with big or small! You’re getting a party planner and a pen pal all in one!
