We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sidne Warner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sidne, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I started PinkbyTOO because I wanted to bring old school salon vibes back! I also understood that my clientele was increasing expeditiously and I needed help! So I started training my family members, and young woman that needed an opportunity or just wanted to be a beauty entrepreneur! I always call my suite a “woman’s sanctuary”. Not only do we provide impeccable services, but our experience here is therapy for some of our clients! I’m excited that I’ve created a safe environment for all woman
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I dropped out of college at 19 after losing my parents. I had no idea what my future career would be. While in college I provided beauty services to my friends. So I decided to start enrolling in institutions and classes to assist with me in becoming a beauty professional!
I’m most proud that I now have an establishment, I’m truly changing people lives around me! I feel like the beauty industry is very lucrative. I’m happy to be an ally to all my employees and like-minded individuals around me.
I’m also proud of my pandemic business, @thee.lashbrand, I started this business when Covid hit US, I learned that I’m able to adapt to world around me, I’m a serial entrepreneur!
I just want everyone to know that if I can, why can’t you !
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There I was in my first salon suite that was pretty affordable, a fully booked beauty professional. Needless to say I thought I had a very profitable, successful business, I didn’t have any financial plans, I just knew I was making money. I worked hard and spent just as much. I remember servicing a client when news broke about COVID-19. We chatted about it in open forum, per usual and I didn’t think anything of it. Little did I know about two weeks later I would have to leave my suite without having a return date. I literally had nothing saved. I became accustomed to making large amounts of money daily. I was completely devastated and upset with myself. Quickly I had to pivot and figure out how I would sustain. I knew whenever the world did go back to normal, I would have a plan to not only rely on one source of income but several, residual income. I then started my second business, TheeLashBrand. TLB is a merchandise online store, where I sell lash apparel to lash technicians and lash lovers. I used all the money I had and designed and sold “Sid did my lashes” hoodies. I knew it would sell well, it would be a way for my existing lash clients could support me during the pandemic. Fast forward, I currently have sold a substantial amount of merchandise. This experience made me realize as an entrepreneur you can’t operate in your emotions, you have to be solution focused and always open to pivot and plan.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been focusing on the experience I’m providing. I always say that, I not only do impeccable services, but I provide a once in a lifetime experience. I knew that if I provided an experience that was customer service based I could not lose. That assisted me with gaining organic traffic by word-of-mouth. In return, the experience at my establishment turned the traffic into loyal clientele.
