Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sid Powell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sid, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Writing found me over 20 years ago when myself and my best friend penned 3 fiction novels together. After that I went on to produce and direct stageplays and ultimately found my sweet spot writing for film and television.

Sid, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a self taught screenplay writer who went on to seek formal instruction several years ago. My company is Sidpo Productions and it houses my creative works. An initiative called Backburner Films was recently launched and will house the work I write and produce for others. Everyone has a story.. let’s tell yours.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My ultimate mission is to entertain and educate the masses. A topic I’m passionate about is mental health. I want to normalize having a therapist and even taking medication as a part of self care. I wrote, produced, and directed a stageplay called MENTAL on the subject. Overall I enjoy telling human stories that are colorless and uber relatable. We’re all the same in so many ways. Let’s celebrate and embrace these similarities.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When covid hit it became impossible to produce films because it was frowned upon to gather in groups due to the health implications. As a result I had to pivot. I decided to enter into the animated film space which was an awesome experience. They say necessity is the mother of invention and its so true.
