We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sick Serenity a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sick, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
We have had quite a few meaningful projects to speak of. We have done a few different benefit concerts for various things including one of our first concerts we ever performed was a benefit for a little girl with Cystic Fibrosis. Another one of our most meaningful projects as a band was placing in the finals at the Greater Cincinnati Band Challenge 2019. We had only been together about a year when we did that, so it was a pretty big undertaking that turned out well. I think our most tangible and meaningful project was recording our first full album, ‘All In’ Prior to this we did a four song, self-titled EP, and had release a single by itself titled, ‘Another Lost Day’. We have new music in the works and plan to get into the studio and record as soon as we can!
Sick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, we all got into the industry in different ways. All of us are from a small rural area, went to small schools, From an early age, we all started learning music and we knew that we wanted to write songs and perform. Sam (Bass Guitar/Vocals) and myself, Jake (Lead Vocals/Guitar) started off our musical endeavor by moving to the big city right out of high school, with no jobs, in search of bands to play in. Thomas (Guitar) started learning music at a young age. His brother, as well as his mom and grandparents played music and Thomas started playing music in church when he was about 16. Bodhi, started.learned from Allen Grooms of the band Rootbound at a young age, looked up to a couple local drummers who had taught him things in the beginning as well as played guitar and wrote songs from early on and is a big part of the songwriting in Sick Serenity songs. We pride ourselves on putting everything we have into what we do. Putting on an unforgettable Rock Show can change the world. We try to create an experience you’ll remember with our shows! But also, we really pride ourselves on being a close-knit group, and helping to create a music community around us. We appreciate any thing you can do to support our journey. Following us on Social Media, sharing our music and videos, buying something from our website sickserenity.com, or coming out to a show!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think it’s the feeling you get when you really inspire people. From inspiring young artists, to maybe inspiring somebody older to pick an instrument back up. Or just the feeling when you’re able to “move” somebody with a the power of a song. We all know that feeling when a song or a guitar solo or just somebody’s voice makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Making people feel like that. That’s it, for sure.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our “mission statement” is simple, kind of like the title of our album, we are “ALL IN”.. It obviously takes a ton of work to build up a band or a business or really anything, but you have to be ‘all in’ on it to make it happen. All In on everything!
