We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Siani Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Siani below.
Hi Siani , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I love taking risks, honestly! Taking a risk is how I got started in the first place. It was a year after the world shutdown in 2021. I had just quit my corporate job after working from home and still not adjusting to the switch. During this time, I was not happy, and my self-care journey had just begun. I remember saying to myself if I am on the journey of putting myself first and focusing on my happiness the first step is to walk away/change the environment that was upsetting me the most which was the job. After, being out of work for two weeks prior going back was nowhere in the plans. If I could explain it to you, I just didn’t see myself there anymore. It got to a point, that I dreaded answering emails to my boss at the time about the timeframe of my return. Then one morning, I had a big urge of confidence that I woke up and sent him an email. I didn’t have it drafted nor did I plan to send it that day which I knew was a bit risky for me because I have never walked away from a job on my terms. But something in me that I knew was faith encouraged me to do and I did.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
hi! I’m Siani. lol! I am currently a full-time business owner and full-time student. I am the creator behind Unapologeticallybabes. I started the brand because I want to help women. I want to create a space where women feel comfortable and transparent about things we go through on a daily basis and are not afraid to talk about them. I am an optimistic lover girl, who enjoys fine-ding and embracing her feminine side. To me, unapologetic means to “be or live a life on your terms! Making the rules to fulfill your happiness”. I started this brand in March 2021. I was freshly out of a breakup and in the beginning stages of my healing journey. During that time I felt like life was teaching me so much and I wanted to share my testimony with other women. I started the brand because I want to help women. I want to create a space where women feel comfortable and transparent about things we go through on a daily basis whether it’s romance, with family, friends, or workspaces, and are not afraid to talk about them. My focus is self-improvement for women that focuses on self-care, self-love, and self-discovery. Knowing who you are and living under your terms is unapologetic. Although I post quotes and reels with women expressing how they feel, I do it because it’s relatable. As a woman, we’ve all been through things and you never know who you could be a help to just by being that voice for them. I believe sharing my experience with you all will help, guide, and motivate you into working towards becoming the woman of your desires. Believe it or not, I am still on my journey as well. Healing has its ups and downs, and there is no real timeline on how long it will take you to be completely healed from that very thing sent to break you. Taking the steps and beginning is enough reason to keep going. During this journey, I promise to be my authentic self and honest. I am not a healing coach, licensed therapist, or motivational speaker just a young woman who is living under her terms unapologetic.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What I think is helping me build my reputation within my market is my authenticity. Living in a world today where everything is broadcasted I think authenticity is how you build relationships with your audience and make you more relatable. I don’t know anyone with overnight success without believing in themself and pushing their brands to grow within their targeted audiences. Also being authentic in the beginning makes your audience appreciate you more and will bring a strong support system!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is comparison. Comparison is something that we all will do at some point in our lives. Whether it’s comparisons of body shapes, hair, nails, clothing aesthetics, and an overall aesthetic of their day-to-day lives. The backstory of comparison in building my brand process was in the very beginning. Everything was new to me and I didn’t know which kind of content to create. I would get inspiration from other Instagram pages and their designs and find ways to implement them into my work, and that’s where my biggest struggle came from. I realized the struggling part was because I was not using my creative mind and building off someone else’s work. It took me to have an actual conversation with myself where I told myself that if I wanted to stand out and be known having the same look and designs would not help. After doing my creative thinking I realized that doing my designs would attract the people and audience I needed it to reach, and that should always be the goal. To only attract the type of people I want to be associated with my brand.
