Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sia Savvy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
This year, I’ve been truly fortunate to serve as a Showrunner and Field Director for some profoundly meaningful projects that have been very close to my heart. Among these, one of my personal favorites is the forthcoming 2024 Tubi Original documentary, “Sneaker Hustle.”
“Sneaker Hustle” takes a deep dive into the captivating universe of sneaker culture. It’s a riveting journey that not only spotlights those who’ve transformed their sneaker passion into thriving businesses but also courageously unveils the darker underbelly of this world, one that has tragically claimed the lives of many young people. This documentary has truly been a labor of love, shining a spotlight on the unique stories of collectors, resellers, and enthusiasts, while delving deep into the economic, cultural, and societal implications of this dynamic subculture. Special shout out to Cheech Hall and Scrams for their invaluable contribution!
Sia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began my television career in the world of true-crime content, a genre that has always captivated me. My early experiences laid the foundation for my storytelling skills and ignited my passion for unraveling complex narratives. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on a diverse range of television projects, including reality TV, docuseries, and most recently, feature-length documentaries. My work has been featured on a multitude of platforms and networks, from ESPN+ and Hulu to VH1, Oxygen, ID Channel, TVOne, BET, Animal Planet, Tubi, and many more.
What sets me apart is my commitment to creating quality content that is not only captivating but also inclusive. I believe in the power of storytelling to highlight the contributions of women and BIPOC individuals, often overlooked in the industry. It’s important for me to give these voices a platform and tell stories that resonate with a wide audience, showcasing the rich tapestry of human experiences.
One of the transitions I’m most proud of has been my latest work with feature-length documentaries. This move allowed me to delve even deeper into subjects that matter to me and my community. It’s been incredibly rewarding to craft narratives that move people, spark conversations, and shed light on important social issues.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that my brand is all about authentic storytelling. Whether it’s through true crime, reality TV, docuseries, or documentaries, my work is driven by a passion for the human experience. I take pride in the diversity of content I’ve produced and continue to produce, and I’m committed to making a meaningful mark in the industry by championing diversity and inclusivity.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to impact and connect with people on a deeply emotional and intellectual level. Creative work, whether in television, film, art, or any other medium, has the power to evoke powerful emotions, inspire change, and spark conversations. It allows us to explore and share our unique perspectives, beliefs, and experiences with the world.
As a creative, the knowledge that your work can entertain, educate, or provoke thought in others is incredibly fulfilling.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely, there’s a clear goal and mission that has been the driving force behind my creative journey. My primary objective is to use the power of storytelling to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities, particularly women and BIPOC individuals, in the media and entertainment industry.
I believe that media has a profound influence on society, shaping perceptions, attitudes, and cultural norms. By creating content that is inclusive and highlights the contributions, struggles, and triumphs of marginalized groups, I aim to foster greater understanding, empathy, and appreciation for diversity. It’s essential to me that our screens reflect the rich tapestry of human experiences and that everyone, regardless of their background, can see themselves represented in the stories we tell.
