We were lucky to catch up with Sia Clyde recently and have shared our conversation below.
SIA, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents did not do hardly anything right-in fact, they did all the wrong things. My father was an abusive alcoholic who gave me up for adoption to my stepdad without much of a fight and my mother was a mentally ill abuser who regularly hit me, pick my body apart, and tell me the worst possible things at a very young age. They taught me how NOT to be a parent. Growing up, I was not given anything. Everything that I have now, I had to work hard for. My mother and stepdad showed favoritism to my young brother and that inspired me to work even harder-not for their approval, but perhaps to make a name for myself and to become more successful than all of them. I acheived just that with my six figure business and financial freedom. At age 27 I bought a brand new house. By 28, I bought a Lamborghini. I take my family on frequent trips at any given time without much thought,
The way that I was treated as a child and teen greatly impacted me today as an adult. I struggled a lot with depression and anxiety, something I take meds for but I am not ashamed. Not only has it made me successful as a self made entrepreneur, it has also made me a successful parent as a mother of 3.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my business from a blog that I wrote daily for fun when I was pregnant with my first child in 2013. I never thought it would go anywhere-it was just something that I did for fun and to keep my health in check as I logged my daily meals and workouts. Readers started following and began asking for meal plans and workouts. I quit my job as a nurse to become a personal trainer and content creator as I saw the need to supply the demand for more prenatal workouts as the industry was lacking. Today, I have my own fitness app and help women worldwide get into their best shape before, during, and after pregnancy.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My side hustle was my tiny old free blog! It was a fun hobby that I loved doing daily which gathered a ton of attention. I started taking on small jobs such as blogging for other brands and companies and running other brands’ social media pages for extra money. I had just quit my job as a nurse and we needed the money. Every month, my blog earned more readership and more readers turned into more Google Adsense money. Then came the sponsorships and launching my own brand/products, My passion and hobby turned into my business!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built an audience of 2.4 million on Instagram by keeping up with the trends and creating viral content. I think that truly putting yourself out there authentically-the good, bad, and ugly, helps users to relate, I remember going viral on People.com and other news outlets in 2016 for having a six pack during my second pregnancy. This helped grow my page. Also, I engaged with a lot of other huge pages such as celeb pages which helped my own page get seen. I think I grew 100k followers in a few short months this way. But the algorithm has since changed a bit. Now, I continue to grow my social media presence by creating viral reels using trending sounds and key words that stand out.I learned that shorter reels make for better virility.
