We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shyrone Cyph360 Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shyrone Cyph360 , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?

The idea of starting my publishing company came to me when I was getting ready to release my second book. After writing my first book I searched to get published and within 3 months of finishing I found a publishing house. I seen how they handled my project, and also seen how they charged me for every service and felt like the publishing company was getting over. The money splits wasn’t in my favor and I didn’t have much control on how my project was marketed or sold. When I was finished my second book I was questioning if I wanted to go that route again and I reached out to one of my favorite authors at the time, AL Sadiqq Banks, and he asked me was I after the money or did I want longevity. I chose longevity and he told me the best way was to go and start my own company. I took his advice and released my second book myself and was surprised by the result. My first book sold less then 500 copies while my second book I released on my own sold over 6000 copies. That’s when I knew I made the right decision and through the years I released 19 books on my own while helping 7 writers become first time authors. This move help shape my future by having me have control over everything I do. I now own and co own a publishing company (Wildaness Publishing) a film company (Cash Cow Films) and a production company (The Hits Council).

Shyrone Cyph360 , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I am a writer, author, artist, producer and director. I was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey and always had a love of the arts. I started out as a hip hop artist where I found a love of writing. I would use that love of writing to write my first book. I have released 20 titles over the course of my career and that writing lead me to other avenues. I wrote films, with one of my films, “Da Citi”, being picked up for distribution after a successful independent release. I also became a journalist and worked with some of the top publications in entertainment journalism. Including Sways Universe, The Jasmine Brand, Thisis50, XXL, and Tracy Mitchell VA. I launched my publishing company with the intentions of showing authors how to become independent. My service is intended to show you the steps of becoming a published author, I edit, format, create book cover and publish. I also include an social media account and website for the author and after everything is set I give the author full control of their work. What separates my publishing company from the rest is, I will never see money that’s made from the project because I sell a service and not own people’s work. With film and production services beside me I have a team of people who can help get things done, from a commercial to a feature film. With the music production side, I have partnered up with some talented producers who can cover many genres of music.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

What help build my brand was my honesty and consistency. I’ve always met deadlines and I always give realistic timelines. The under-promise, over-deliver technique I learned early on helps to comfort your clients expectations.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an creative is seeing my thoughts come to life. It’s no better feeling than seeing something I thought of, become an actual thing. One of my biggest moments came when I witnessed myself of a movie screen in an actual movie theater. I was a co star to Hollywood actor Jade Yorker in a film I wrote. It was a surreal moment for me.
