We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful ShuTara Randall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ShuTara below.
ShuTara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
November 2023 I’m 6 months into my transition moving from Houston to FortWorth and business is slowing down at the barbershop I work at. Because I’m fairly new to the area I have to build my clientele from scratch. Although I was living with a good friend of mine at the I still had bills I was responsible for and I was afraid I would not be able to maintain them. After not working a regular job since 2018 I told myself out fear I would get a part time job. I applied to multiple jobs and experienced the same thing each time. They will review my application and get back to me only to not move forward with hiring me. One day as I was writing in my journal I was reminded of the words I said before I quit my job in 2018 “ I will never work a regular job again.” Being reminded of those words made me look back at all the ups and down I have experienced and overcome as an entrepreneur. At that moment I was reminded of all the amazing unforgettable opportunities I have had and quickly remembered no matter what I am going to get through this. I quickly freed myself from the thoughts of lack and fear of not being able to pay my bills and everything changed instantly. Before I knew it I had consistent regular clients and customers getting services and purchasing products. Am I happier as a business owner? You can bet your life I am. With the freedom to spend time enjoying life and spending time with my family, I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. If you are a business owner things are going to happen that is out of your control. The key is to process and feel what you are experiencing and keep moving forward because giving up or quitting is not an option.

ShuTara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m ShuTaraNicole native of Houston Tx, a mother, entrepreneur and owner of Beauty Artistry and Beyond by ShuTaraNicole LLC. I’m a certified published professional makeup artist, loc stylist, podcast host and spiritual advisor. Under my company I have a natural hair and skin care line of products all hand made by me. As well as natural herbal teas and holistic care products that helps improve your health and vitality. Outside of the beautification services I also provide diviner services which consist of intuitive, oracle, and tarot readings, as well as energy clearing which some may refer to it as reiki. With my gifts I am able to identify any blockages and or illnesses you may be experiencing and remove them for you or provide you with the solutions and tools that may be needed or a prescription is what I call it. The thing that sets me apart from everyone else is my unique and very distinct god given gifts. Many can imitate but non can duplicate. Many of us claim we want the best that life has to offer but are often afraid to step outside their mindsets and comfort zones to obtain the best. The thing I am most proud of is choosing to face my fears and step out of my comfort zone on a daily basis. Each day is a new opportunity to experience something you never experienced before and grow. Each day is another opportunity to show up as my true authentic self.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele for me is consistency. I treat all my clients the way I would like to be treated as a customer and I value my self on efficiency and time management. I absolutely despise having to wait to be serviced especially when I set an appointment and I don’t want my clients to have to wait at all. Although sometimes unforeseen things happen but communicating with my clients is key.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started my first business broke. At the time I was only operating with a DBA and in my county it was only like $16 and some change. Keep in mind this was back in 2015. I honestly didn’t have a plan but I had goals and every time I accomplished a goal I scratched it out and set a new set of goals. I also used the money from my job at the time to help buy supplies I needed as well investing my whole income tax refunds into my business to grow and expand. For about 7 years straight I put every dime I made and came across into my business. At one point I had completely sacrificed myself by going without and not spending on myself at all to make sure by kids had what they need and my business had what it needed.
