Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shronda Marshall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shronda , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
As a licensed Esthetician I have seen so many different trends that emerge from the latest dances, social media challenges, and everything in-between but I must say the biggest trend lately has been following skincare advice of TikTok and media influencers. The latest trend involves spraying your face with a dry shampoo or hairspray to bring out the vellus hairs and then shaving them off with a plastic handle razors. This is bad for the skin for a number of reasons. The products alone are enough to comprise the skin’s barrier. But I must admit this one has topped it for me lol. While some trends may be fun to partake in or give viewers a good laugh some of these trends are actually just not safe. Before becoming an Esthetician you must complete schooling and pass State Board testing before becoming fully licensed. There’s a lot of education and training done to learn about skin, product formulation, and ingredients within those products. A licensed Esthetician specializes in knowing how products can effect the skin in both positive and negative ways so I never recommend following any skincare trends from social media influencers. It’s just not a good idea and I have seen some of the severe damage these trends have had on the skin.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a mother of 3 beautiful adult children and have always had an eye for beauty. It started when I was young child. I loved styling my barbie dolls hair. I would play around with cutting and trying to color it. I always wondered why the color never stuck and it wasn’t until I was older that I found out it was because they had synthetic hair (giggles). I was always the girly girl and enjoyed playing in make up at home but never wore it out much publicly. My great grandmother had interesting stories about women who wore make up so I never really wore much but loved the look! It wasn’t until I reached mid thirties I started noticing the subtle signs of aging and that’s where my passion for skincare took off. Oh no, I’m want to age backwards I thought to myself (giggles) so I enrolled in Esthetics school to become a licensed Esthetician. The world of skincare is such a fascinating thing! It’s amazing how products and professionals skincare treatments can transform the skin. Whether it’s fighting acne or aging….there’s products and services that can help achieve this. At my practice I see a little of everything from hyperpigmention, acne, rosacea, aging, you name it. My goal is to help every client that walks through my door feel comfortable in the skin their in and eventually go on to love the skin their in! Sometimes all that takes is educating clients of the proper products and services to properly care for their specific skin type.
What sets me apart from other providers in the industry is my love for my clients. After a few visits your family now (giggles). I’ve worked at places before opening my own practice and clients were just a dollar sign. I am very ethical and stand by morals. I’m not here to sell you a bunch of products you don’t need or pressure you to get the more expensive treatments if you don’t need them. I care about my clients as if they are family and every client who comes through my door will feel just like that!
I am most proud that I had the courage to go out on my own and open my practice to give people a place the could come and get affordable and quality skincare services. I’m so thankful for all my loyal clients and would like all my potential future clients to know you’ll always be in good hands at Majestic Moodz!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Building a business from the ground up isn’t easy.
Later on I also found out, it’s not for the faint of heart. I knew once my love for skincare was turned on that one day I wanted to own a skincare clinic. In preparation I began saving up and slowly buying different equipment and modalities. I looked into getting business loans but didn’t want the debt so I decided to wait until I was able to fund my business out of pocket. The key for me was building on it slowly and understanding that I needed only the necessities and my wants had to wait. I’m almost two years in and still building. You don’t have to have the perfect plan but you definitely have to have some plan. I didn’t go the traditional business plan way and that’s OK because I took my plan up with God first and he has provided me everything I needed to get my business off to a great start!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Advertising and marketing is a lot different now from when I was growing up. I remember ads playing on the TV, radio and on Sunday you opened the classifieds in the newspaper so getting use to social media marketing for me took some time. All my peers in the industry talked about how important social media presence was so I jumped on board. I turned my personal pages into business pages. I removed all personal content and slowly began introducing business related content. After sometime I hired a social media manager and that really helped by relieving some of the pressure to constantly post. Social media marketing is a job itself so I recommend delegating that off to someone and freeing up that extra time to focus on your business. I am a one woman show so having a social media manager for me has tremendously made such a huge impact to my business. Check me out on Instagram under: Majestic Moodz!
