We were lucky to catch up with Shonelle Strong recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shonelle, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project has to be my “The Beginning” Moss Art piece. This piece is a depiction of earth as we know it began, and our relationship between Earth, God and ourselves. Dust we are and dust we shall return. The beauty along the way is the picture we leave behind. This particular piece has a combination of Earth, as we are. Water! The spirit within us. Fire, as the words we speak, Air, our movements between time and space.
Shonelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a creative striving to open one’s mind to the possibilities and beauty of God. I like to combine different elements not usually as one. Into something beautiful and unique. To spark a conversation within oneself. To be able to place yourself within another’s shoes. I myself tend to think outside the box, I create with raw emotions. I use my art as a language, to bridge the gap between what I feel, understand and can express.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I was always taught to stay in line. But I never did, could fit in! Always an outcast I would often create art to appease others views instead of creating my perception and being true to my connection with my gift, Art. I’m now again unlearning the fact that I must fit in to be accepted. When in fact I’ll fit in where I’m supposed to be.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission my goal is to spark life. To allow people to feel and be real. Art is expressive, Art is to invoke the real issues of Life! The raw truth to make a person change. Give a feeling, either hope, Anger or love,
