Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shlonda Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shlonda, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have worked on I would say would be my book series “The Way Out”. Life’s journey has taken me through a myriad of struggles and obstacles, guiding me along diverse paths—some filled with light, others shadowed. Yet, within each circumstance and situation, I’ve gleaned priceless lessons about resilience, empathy, and the human spirit. I also have come to understand that I am not the only woman who faces challenges. It’s just that most women do not voice these challenges openly. “The Way Out” series is a collection of some of the struggles I have faced and a mixture of challenges that other women have faced as well. I wanted to show the strength and resilience that we have as women and give an open space to say “You are not alone”. I hope that there is a part of Shelly’s journey through the series that resonates with each reader and that her journey becomes a beacon of hope for others who may be trapped in their own struggles. We all face challenges, and I hope in witnessing Shelly’s journey that we are reminded that there is always a way out, even in our darkest moments. I wanted this series to really be a reminder that we are all on our unique paths, facing our own adversities. But we are not alone. We can find a way to embrace love, break free from our past, and find our own paths toward healing. Everyone has a story or as I say a testimony and you can’t have a testimony without a test. I hope this series encourages others to tell their story. You never know who is listening.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a wife and a mother of two daughters. I am a business owner as well as an author. I am a current student at the University of North Texas where I am attaining my bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences. I am also a Dallas College Alumni and I am currently obtaining my second associate degree in science .I discovered my passion for writing through my deep affection for books. I take pride in creating stories that touch hearts and inspire change, as well as encourage others to embrace vulnerability, find strength in adversity, and believe in the power of redemption. I want to use my books to connect with readers on a deeper level while encouraging empathy, self-reflection, and personal growth. I would say that my brand stands for authenticity, resilience, and hope.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One valuable lesson I had to reevaluate was my tendency to remain silent and withhold my story from others. I never understood that my life journey is sometimes used as a stepping stone for others and that the problem you are facing today could be the problem someone is facing tomorrow. I have learned that being open and telling my story and sharing my life journey could encourage someone else without me even knowing. So I always try and share with others my testimony, my struggles and how I persevered through it all. Sometimes we just need a good word right!? A good word of encouragement and an listening ear. Through my journey I personally felt that I was unheard and that I did not receive the help or advice that I sought. But, today I can be that person for someone else. through these stories I feel that I can be a light through a dark hallway for those just looking for a word of encouragement to help them to keep moving forward.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission that drives my creative journey is just the love of storytelling. I think that there is so much we can learn from one another by sharing your personal experiences. You never know how your words could encourage someone else. My primary goal is to not only share my story, but to encourage others to share their stories of hope as well.
