We recently connected with ShirtKingPhade Sacasa and have shared our conversation below.
ShirtKingPhade, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Growing up in Brooklyn then moving to the Bronx and witnessing the core elements of a culture influence daily actions created a mission. A way out, an answer to prayers. The backdrop of the Bronx was not a pretty site. We made due, some settled and said,’this is the way it has always been and will be. The new generation saw it different. We saw the silver lining
ShirtKingPhade, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Shirt King Phade I hit into the industry by default. I was first a graffiti writer in the New York City Subway system. Getting up, getting Fame, getting status. This is what sets me apart, my foundation. Another graffiti writer I mentored introduced me to using an airbrush. I never looked back. 2 Years later I formed a group with High School friends called Shirt Kings and we created a demand for art on sweatshirts and any clothing items.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The NYC trains created a passion for art because we used the side of subways as our canvas that was seen throughout the city. I approached business the same way. Ensuring of the visibility of my product. One of the pivotal moments that helped my resilience has been learning about the past. Heroes that looked like me and accomplished great feats wether it was basketball, boxing, revolutionary changes, politics. I began reading a lot of books listening to different genres of music. The books allowed me to dream and figure out my path enabling me to enhance the gift I had to better serve humanity
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients for me has been prior relationships and word of mouth. I like to stay exclusive and create one of a kind high end pieces that retain their value in the market. The clients I have are attracted to the exclusivity of the brands success. Social media just drives the traffic to new clients who engage because of their personal sense of style
